When Bossa Nova exploded worldwide in the Sixties, it was no mistake that it would catch on in Italy. The natural lyricism of the Portuguese vocals translates into Italian better than any other language. There were no shortage of great film score composers coming from Italy in this time with international recognition. Some of them embraced bossa nova but mixed in elements of other forms and complex arrangements. Later there would be tons and tons of lounge music incorporating pieces of the bossa nova. Decades later in the Nu Jazz era Italian music labels and artists would lead a resurgence in the music in the late nineties and later. In between these periods, a couple Italian compilation series kept the music alive for collectors to rediscover. This mix contains sixteen songs recorded in Italy, with a couple made by Brazilian artists singing in Italian.

I don’t often put mixes together and this is my first for over 2 years. 

I was very happy to include songs from legendary musicians who’ve inspired me - Steve Reich, John Hassell, Tony Allen, Jeff Mills, Larry heard, Michael Jackson, Four Tet, Ritchie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Alice Coltrane - and present their music in a way you’ve maybe not heard before. I am also happy to present some of my recent hero producers that feature regularly on my Radio Highlife WWFM show - Golden Teacher, DJ Sotofett, Bambounou, Harmonious Thelonious, LAPS, Duckett, Raoul K, Tomaga, Al Dobson Jr in particular.
