About the Ep:
MTK039 revisits one of the label's most popular tracks and welcomes back Slumber, a San Francisco based duo consisting of Oona Dahl (All Day I Dream / Hallucienda) and Amber Cox (Motek Music). Originally featuring on our 'Motek Journeys: USA' release from 2016, 'Temple' with vocals by Amunet Shah is given a new lease of life with three varied productions from three great artists. The release moves from the melodic stylings of Miyagi, through to the groove based deep tech sounds from Of Norway, and finally to the deep progressive treatment by Chris Fortier. The three versions provide for something different for the different hours of the dancefloor whilst all complimenting the original.

For the past decade, the Amsterdam based Miss Melera has been absorbing the essence behind traditional genres such as deep, tech house and techno and twisting them into a melodic confection that is both fresh, timeless and completely her own.

In the past years she has played high profile dates in Europe, Asia, South and North America. In 2012 she has started her monthly radio show and event called ‘COLOURIZON’. Her show is broadcast on several radio stations worldwide and increasingly popular on her Soundcloud profile.

As COLOURIZON developed quickly into a global phenomenon, Miss Melera was invited to play for her fans all over the world. The success of the radio broadcast turned into a successful touring career, with invites to perform in venues like D-Edge (São Paulo, Brazil), Warung (Itajaí, Brazil), Fusion Festival (Lärz, Germany), Nest (Toronto, Canada), Womb (Tokyo, Japan), The Pickle Factory (London, UK), Le Bikini (Toulouse, France), Rote Fabrik (Zurich, Switzerland), Harry Klein (Munich, Germany), Niceto Club (Buenos Aires, Argentina), KaterBlau (Berlin, Germany), Baum (Bogota, Colombia) and of course her Dutch hometown Amsterdam where she is hosting a COLOURIZON residency at De Marktkantine.

Her fast-growing fanbase is embracing her latest release, ‘Nirvana’ on the English label Polymath which follows after a remix on Traum and her ‘Magenta’ EP on Chapter 24 Records including remixes by Dave Seaman and Jonas Saalbach.

pølaroit: After a late session in our studio Jonas decided to play some chords on our piano. We just felt comfortable with it and started to record everything on a tape deck. Even though we were quite done this day we came into a flow - that’s the reason why we called the track "Moving Forward". (...)

The latest edition of our free download series welcomes @assalm. After his track "Angel", he created a new free download called "Crusader".

trndmsk: What inspired you to produce the track?

Assalm: I wanted to create a dynamic contemporary sound, while using at the same time mix between traditional eastern instruments and vintage synthesizers. For me it s aiming to provide new life to these instruments and more sincerity to the track. Its title, "Crusader" puts a spell on this opposition between the sounds which were used in this track. They may seem contradictory due to their origins (one is middle eastern and the other occidental) but are finally matching pretty well in terms of sound. A short comparison can be made with the Crusades which were opposing eastern and western groups, resulting to some chaos but at the same time to some interesting religious and cultural encounters. Having spent myself years of my life in both oriental and western countries I felt pretty inspired. 

Where did you record it?

I recorded it at my home studio in Paris as most of my tracks. Its private environment allows me to completely dedicate myself to the process of creation. I recorded a friend of mine who plays the Duduk, an instrument coming from the Middle East mainly and added a touch of the ARP 2600 as a layer in the background. This vintage synth btw is amazing, a lot of electronic musician will agree on this point, most of the layers of the track come from it. 

Why do you want to provide it as a free download?

I create music to share my feelings of the moment with others. Music is for me a way of communication, and that’s why it s important when it s distributed and heard by many. Providing it as a free download, is a chance to create a link with new people who hear the world the same way as I do.

What’s up next after the release? Are you working on any other projects?

I never stop creating new music and work on new projects, it s inseparable from my everyday life. So, you can be sure to hear more of my tunes soon. I have some upcoming techno tracks ready to be shared in a near future.

trndmsk: What inspired you to produce the track?

Beije: It was just another day in the studio for us. We usually like to start with drums, so we laid those down first and started building the melodic foundation for the track. Eventually, we decided "Hey, what would this sound like without all the percussion and just the kick?" So we did just that, and the track quickly morphed into something more ambient and laid back. We ran with this idea and it was refreshing since it was different from the stuff we usually make. (...)
