Im flüssigen Lichteines Nachmittags cruisen wir mit wummerndem Offbeat-Motor durch eine mediterran oder vielleichtauch südamerikanisch anmutende Landschaft. Auf einem staubigen Schild am Straßenrand stehtEsperanza. Im warmen Fahrtwind weht uns der Geruch von Freiheit, Möglichkeit und Lebensfreudeentgegen. Wir schalten einen Gang hoch und rauschen über den Horizont hinweg, hinein in dieHochebene vonDistancia. Mit dem Funkeln der ersten Sterne kommen wir zwischen bunten Lichtern,Girlanden und den freundlichen Gesichtern einer Fiesta an.

Pophop and Seba Campos present the music for a road movie that has not been shot yet, but lis-ten-ing to these two tracks makes us protagonists anyway. The powerful drone of the offbeat enginesends us cruising through the liquid light of an afternoon in a mediterranean, or maybe Latin Americanlandscape. A dusty sign at the shoulder of the street readsEsperanza. The warm headwind carries thepromise of freedom, possibility and high spirits. We shift up a gear and roar beyond the horizon, ontothe high plain ofDistancia. After releasing their smashing debut EP ‘Fields’ that was well received with featured remixes by Madmotormiquel, Genii, Canson, and Noraj Cue we welcome back Roswita and Nash with their new project moniker called @roswithanash. Due to the pandemic they couldn’t bring their sound to the stage. Instead, they poured their quiet Corona hours into creating and can’t wait to share all of it with you.

For now, we are releasing the single ‘Don’t go asking’. A 7 minute moment where they say: it’s alright. The single is completed with a beautiful slow remix by Berlin’s legendary music duo @mira_kater & Chris Schwarzwälder (@shuffle). Can you hear the promising summer buzzing in the warm chords...?

Don’t go asking started out as a combination of a sample of a rough legged owl and a few broken bonds between some human people. In its core the story and feeling of the track is about new beginnings. The chords carrying the track are one part “Where do I go next?” and one part “It’s already okay”. For the detailed listener, someone is very softly asking... How are you? But as the vocals loud and clearly answer: We don’t need to ask each other that question anymore. They are old and tired, and whatever is happening now is new, young, and full of potential. It’s alright.

DJs are a nomadic people. Drifting between venues, airports and hotel rooms, they're always on the hunt for new music and clubbing activity. They are, indeed, the Bohemians of the 21st Century. Or as Britta Arnold, unders and Noraj Cue would call them: Happy Campers. 

The sophomore release for their brand new imprint Happy Camper Records comes from Bar25 legend, KaterBlau resident and Berlin mainstay Jake The Rapper. The American-born singer/dj/producer has been in Germany long enough now to understand the art of making an Ohrwurm. 'Time To Waste' is one of those tunes that keeps resonating inside your head long after you've heard it. With its thumping beat, catchy vocals and roaring synthline, it's bound to set any dancefloor ablaze. 

Although many believe 'Time To Waste' is a love song, Jake actually wrote it for his friends: "I was at Kater one morning, getting tired of the cyclicality of raving, thinking I really ought to go home and kiss my wife, take care of my kids, get some sleep, get my life together and get some music done. Some friends wanted me to stay and keep dancing. I was like: 'If I had any time to waste, I'd waste it with you. But I don't so… Bye!'" 

As is custom in the Happy Camper family, a string of befriended producers have given their own interpretations to the original. In dOP's remix, a mesmerizing synth that sounds a lot like a harmonica almost gives it a chanson feel, were it not for its relentless bassline and acid bleeps. Skilfully fucking up the vocals beyond recognition, Iories takes a more slow-burning and epic approach with his Dystopian Sundown mix. And Signal Flow & Pattern Drama aim for that end of the night magic with an epic stomper of a remix. Dancefloor detonation guaranteed.

After starting the journey of Heimlich Musik by contributing the very first EP to be released on the label, Basel-based producer ĂVEM is returning to the Viennese imprint now with a unique collection of impressions deriving from his latest inspirations and collaborations – all packed into one colorful EP. The title “Halcyon” refers to a Greek myth about Kingfishers leaving the listener touched with some kind of emotional ambivalence.

Three of four tracks are featuring guests and it’s all family business with Arutani and Dandara on the one hand while also establishing new connections with Zazou on the other hand. The title track “Halcyon” featuring Arutani is based on a unique melancholic mood, and “Untitled” featuring Zazou is pushing this melancholic vibe even further all the way to the maximum, using a powerful melody that immediately evokes goosebumps when dropped just at the right moment. “Plastikmenschen” with Dandara & Arutani unites the best that Basel has to offer when it comes to deep club tracks using complex drum patterns, creating an intense drive that will push you through any night. “Oh Wieso” serves as a guide through confusing festival experiences, seeming to lose track of time but always coming back to a straight direction into trippy times.

ĂVEM’s “Halcyon” EP is an ode to friendship, and all the inspirations and impressions that these special connections create – a very well fit into the whole concept of Heimlich Musik.

Nine months after releasing Acuds Verbrennungsmotor Ep, we are not done with it yet. We found five wonderful artists to get everything out of the engine, which resulted in this new Remix EP. The title track, produced by ACUD and BEATMÖRTELZ, is here new interpreted in an impressive way by the downtempo specialists ARUTANI and O/Y, by RODION (ALIEN ALIEN), which is known for his massive Nu-Disco Skills, and finally, in a faster version, by AIO. Further LUKAS ENDHARDT gives the poetic track FLIEGEPETER a new look. The original version by ACUD will be published also in a radio version.

"For the past ten years now, I’ve celebrated my birthdays by inviting all my favorite cats to play – we started off at Kater Holzig before moving to our home at Kater Blau in 2015. For the first time since it started, and for obvious reasons, 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch won’t be happening, on what would have been the tenth anniversary of the series.

I’ve been wondering for a while now how I can make up for the missed year - streams already feel a bit outdated, and you just can’t imagine the vibe of the event without actually being there, getting beautifully lost in those days and nights, hugging old friends and making new ones. You can’t even explain that feeling, so you definitely can’t live-stream it.

Instead, this year 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch will be a compilation of some of the amazing artists from the past ten years, and even some of the new faces I would have booked this year. In a way, it’s the perfect souvenir of all the nights we’ve had so far, and an idea of what to look forward to in all the nights to come at Kater Blau somewhere in the future.

The compilation will be split into two sections: Heinz Hopper and Acidbogen, reflecting the two floors of Kater Blau, each with their own special flavor and sound. The whole record is programmed the way I would schedule the artists across the two floors for my birthday, warming up at the start before things start getting more intense later on. I guess you could say it’s a concept album, in which the audience wanders into our lovely little circus on the river Spree, and experiences one of my birthdays from start to finish, split across both floors of Kater Blau.

Much like my parties and my sets, the idea is for the listener to get lost in these tracks and to experience them as a whole piece. At the end of it all you leave with a feeling that maybe, just maybe, cats & music were the answers after all. Even in times like these."
