What Is This Term, "Al-Ṣaʿāfiqah"? - Abū Ḥakīm Bilāl Davis

In a lecture delivered in July 2007 as part of the first Islamic Summer Courses with Mūsá Richardson (ʿAqīdah Course, Class 7 of 12), some discussion was made on the "Beliefs of the Nation of Islām." This audio was excerpted and made available on troid.ca as From the Beliefs of the 'Nation of Islām' and published online on the 17th of Oct. 2007. During this discourse, while clearly identifying their disbelief, the speaker refrained from applying the ruling of takfīr to the NOI specifically. Our beloved brother, Abū al-ʿAbbās Mūsá Richardson clarifies this mistake by mentioning what has reached him of good advice and correction including the speech of Scholars who have made takfīr of the NOI (Nation of Islām) noting importantly, that they are not those who ever were within the realm of Islām to begin with (i.e. their origin is disbelief).

Some of the people claim saying, "we should encourage the students to seek knowledge but we shouldn't speak about the issues of refutation, misguidance and deviation…when we encourage them to seek knowledge then they will be able to determine this (falsehood)." 

This doubt is prevalent today, used by those who know that the Salafī will not accept the idea of being silent about ahl al-bidʿah outright; so smartly, the unscrupulous one tries to convince them that we can simply spread knowledge and the falsehood will become clear (a ploy to prevent the dissemination of knowledge-based refutation).

Abū ʿUways on taking knowledge from the senior scholars This is a tremendous benefit, taken from the lecture entitled 'The Importance of Sticking to the Scholars', from our beloved brother Abū ʿUways ʿAbdullāh Aḥmad ʿAlī (raḥimahullāh). In this lecture he (raḥimahullāh) describes some of the characteristics of the true scholars. One of the main characteristics that our noble brother (raḥimahullāh) mentions is the characteristic of old age. He mentions that in most cases being elderly is a key trait that the scholars have, except in certain rare cases. Our beloved brother (raḥimahullāh) goes on to mention the reasons why one should not take knowledge from those young in age and the many deficiencies they may have. Listen, so that you may benefit from this clarification that precedence is to be given to those scholars who are elder in age whose knowledge is agreed upon by the scholars in his time.

- Following the methodology of the Prophets in traveling for the sake of da’wah, and examples from the Prophets Ibrāhīm and Muḥammad (عليهم الصلاة والسلام). 
- Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on the verse, “He [Ibrāhīm] said: ‘I will emigrate for the sake of my Lord. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.’” [Sūrah al-‘Ankabūt 29:26]
