Premiere : Jacopo Latini - Daydream #45 (CM002)

Phonica AM is a new imprint curated by staff member Luther Vine focusing on a more ‘after hours’ sound. Think tripped-out Techno, Minimal, Electro and every shade in between.

Voodoos and Taboos are up first with the ‘If We Were’ 12”, a four track EP drawing on strains of Tech- House, 90s Breaks and Techno/Electro. The mysterious duo follow up a string of high calibre releases on their own imprint which have gained substantial hype both upon release and on the second-hand market, with Discogs prices skyrocketing.

A1 ‘Doorway’ is a nuanced, spacey Techno banger with intricate synth licks, underpinned by a pumping groove. Title track ‘If We Were’ is a rich and emotive track, blooming pads, euphoric motifs, fortified by a futuristic jacking groove.

On the flip, ‘Witch House’ is wonky, bassline driven Tech-House with a hefty splash of acid. Final track ‘Holyday’ is a refined modern homage to 90s rave, all swinging break beats and slick vocal fragmenta- tion.

Storming in with his newest slice of extraterrestrial swing-ology, Liquid Earth (alias Urulu under guise) returns to dish out the playful above all “Scope Zone” - a lush and bouncy gem primed for ecstatic workouts and bold galactic excursions, complete with a reshape from Scottish born, Berlin-based vibist, Youandewan.

Flush with garage va-va-voom and low-end paranormal activity, “Scope Zone” indeed lacks no wide-screen power of crowd subjugation. Taking us back to the 90s continuum with its astute mix of chopped-up vox, pong-like bleeps and propulsive buildup, Liquid Earth’s latest is a fun-loving ode to the kaleidoscopic sound of an era and its untamed flow of energy. True to his signature refined melodic touch and airy 4x4 architectonics, Youandewan’s version has us embarking for a proper deep, exhilarating ride across bumpy time warps and oddly familiar parallel universes.

Sex Tapes From Mars second reissue drop comes through more contemporary, tighter, and cleaner but not lacking the grit of its predecessor. 

The baseline alone on Electromenager’s ‘Sunny Side’ on the right dance floor, on the right sound system, it’s enough to end any rave. That’s meant in the best way possible, how do you follow a track with such precision yet drunken mania all at the same time. The synths echo Hitchcock’s scariest movie shot in the 60s, while the drums make you more than aware while simultaneously deranged on this outer planet destination this new label takes you to. 

Staple selector and producer Youandewan takes it to even further afield galaxies on the flip. Tribal drums and morphing samples, conjure free party energy, with the top end in the sky and the low end firmly rooted in expertly crafted club-ready transgression. 

The last remix by Huerta comes earnest and precise. Less low-swung and more f**k off. The baseline is simple but absolute. This is squishy, mushy, dirty dance music. 

One for the books, collection - this is one for the heads.

Tbilisi based party series Pluto’s Plan launches a new label sharing the same name. To start the things off 3 local produers collabed to merge their sounds in 1 decent wax. A stellar VA compiled EP “Starship of Charon” consists of 2 pure house, acid pumper and slow breaks. A1 and B1 house joints were delivered by the label's own Hatsvali. A2 is claimed by a very good friend of a label Toke, family member of D.ko he delivers a masterpiece with pleasing acid chops fitting any party at any given time. B2 is an unheard side of Horoom resident Hamatsuki, a smooth slow burner for early heat.
