Born and bred New Yorker Jean Pierre is stepping out with his own brand new label, Pakate. The vinyl-only outlet kicks off with a fantastic first EP from FLETCH featuring remixes from Pierre himself and Franco Cinelli. This exciting new label will be an outlet for Jean and other friends to serve up mature and minimal sounds focused around unique designs and powerful grooves. Dealing in heady underground sounds that also work on larger dance floors, the label comes after Pierre has spent 15 years entrenched in the electronic scene. This is his way to carefully curate his own music exactly how he wants to, with three releases already lined up for 2021. Closing out the package is a Jean Pierre remix of 'Want Me' that shows off his ability to lay down stripped-back but compelling house grooves with deft sound design and a freaky atmosphere.

PREMIERE: FLETCH - Want Me (Jean Pierre Remix) [Pakate Records]

After 15 years of releasing on the most influential labels in the electronic world, Jean Pierre is now branching out with his own essential new label, Pakate. Sure to become a home for forward-thinking and mature minimal sounds, it kicks off with a vinyl-only EP from FLETCH with two more already lined up for 2021.

Born and bred in New York but now based in Miami, Jean Pierre has been an underground mainstay for many years. His always fresh and innovative sounds come laden with real emotion and join the dots between house and techno. They have come on vital labels such as Play It Say It, Cuttin Headz, Desolat and Hot Creations, and last year he put out an essential Bandcamp album of thrilling original tunes. 

Jean is starting this label in order to release the sort of music that he feels closest to right now. After many years of working with high-level imprints, he is looking to maintain some consistency in terms of sonic output - both his own and that which he carefully A&Rs from others. 

Says Jean, "One of the most rewarding parts of operating a label is being hands-on with the release schedule and it gives me an outlet to highlight up-and-coming artists that I feel are putting out very high-quality records. We intend to stick with a less commercial vibe with our record selection but they will still be able to be played and received well on the big dance floors."

Pakate doesn't have an exact definition, instead, it will become a synonym for high-class club music that is more mature and minimal with unique sound placement and powerful grooves. The first EP is from FLETCH, a red hot UK talent who has released on the likes of Kaluki and Whippin’ Records. His opening tune 'Actin Up' is a slick and slippery minimal groove with real depth and freaky sound designs that make it pop. 'Want Me' then hits harder, with loopy house drums and squelchy synths all bubbling away beneath soulful female vocal sounds and cosmic synths. 

The first fine remix is from Franco Cinelli who takes 'Actin Up' super deep, with punching kicks and rolling bass that gets you in a state of hypnosis., Closing out the package is a Jean Pierre remix of 'Want Me' that shows off his ability to lay down stripped back but compelling house grooves with deft sound design and a freaky atmosphere. 

After the first EP from exciting UK talent Fletch featuring remixes from Pierre himself and Franco Cinelli, more music is lined up from The Martinez Brothers, Agenis Brito, Miguelle, Jean Pierre, Jesse Calosso, and David Gtronic. As such, Pakate is all set to be one of the most influential new labels of the year.

X Files returns for the series’ second instalment, dropping a vinyl debut armed with two fresh edits. Launched in 2021, X Files unveiled a new Unknown Artist series exploring the realms of house and beyond via slick takes on unconventional records, transporting them to main room dance floors and hazy early morning after parties. Following support from Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, Skream, Michael Bibi, Enzo Siragusa, Dennis Cruz and Archie Hamilton, March sees the first vinyl release on the label with another two-track package for the series’ second anonymous release. Harnessing one of music’s most iconic melodies and vocals alongside murky bass and tough drums on the A-Side, before keeping things funky and punchy on the flip, XFL002 serves up a hot slab of wax set to be a must-have for many.

Wheats invites Kirik as the first guest artist on BOX RED, with the Ukrainian talent delivering two fresh cuts across his ‘CHWTSGD’ EP.
Closing the year in style after a busy twelve months, UK talent Wheats kept things moving nicely on his blossoming BOX RED imprint with the release of highly-requested cuts ‘HEADS ROLL’ and ‘LET’S KICK IT’ for the sixth instalment, with 2023 already talent the project’s scope and profile to new levels following the first ever label event on the South Coast. Welcoming the first guest artist to the label, early May sees Ukranian DJ/producer and multi-label boss Kirik step up and join the label following recent appearances on Vatos Locos, LTF Records, Moan and DENSER, as he delivers two moody yet playful efforts across his ‘CHWTSGD’ EP.
Title cut ‘CHWTSGD’ is a low-end heavy yet funky offering as skippy drums, warping basslines, and re-worked hip-hop vocal samples take hold before the warping ‘CYS’ carries on in similar fashion with rumbling sub-bass accented by emerging lead melodies and further warped vocals.

Moscow label boss Archie Hamilton links with FUSE label boss Enzo Siragusa to deliver their three track ‘Dubinnovation’ EP, featuring the dubbed out house ballad ‘Ricochet’.

Archie’s Moscow imprint has been in the game for nearly a decade, with an output leaning more towards quality rather than quantity. With the 20th release on the label he’s tapped his good friend Enzo to showcase a raw, beat-driven style of house that’s been the calling card for both artists throughout their careers.

‘Ricochet’ is a track that’s been tried and tested on dancefloors around the world by Enzo and Archie during the recent winter months, and is finally getting let loose. It possesses an infectious groove, booming bass and tripped out percussion that makes it a clear-cut dancefloor bomb. Pure gold from these two talents on their first original collaboration.

Also found on the ‘Dubinnovation’ EP is the title track along with ‘Transcend’, both following suite with a clean, rhythm-focused motif.

The ‘Dubinnovation’ EP is set for release May 12.
