@lovesdjing: I completely disagree with you. First of all this Laser Beam track is a gem. Second, dont expect a dj/producer to make the same style as they play. Lastly, musicians tend to evolve with time and the set you are comparing to is more than 4 and a half years old

It’s been seven years after Slow Life emerged onto our scene with a series of releases from S. Moreira and how things have changed. The roster of artists releasing on the label has expanded (like an extended family). Now, on release 31, it’s finally time for co-founder Laurine to step up to the production plate with the Abun.dance EP, and the results live up to expectations.

These four tracks are very much a distillation of the Slow Life aesthetic, instantly recognisable to anyone who’s seen Laurine and Cecilio in one of their infamous extended B2Bs. The signifiers of their beloved 90s sound – organs, breaks, bleep basslines, house chords – are present and correct, but of course presented with a contemporary mix and balance. The lead-off track, ‘T.O.S.D.L’, pulls this trick off effortlessly, adding just enough quirk and dissonance in the bass and acid lines to offset its cool and classic central house groove.

On our seventh release, Man/ipulate encapsulates Watatsumi’s spirit, the legendary water dragon. Known as the ruler of the seas and god of the oceans, he would control storms and rainfalls, protect its waters and transform into animals and human forms making him one of the most influential creatures in Japanese mythology.

Our sensei Man/ipulate starts with ‘Dimension’ a perfect gem filled with swinging rhythms, followed by ‘1st Date’, which is definitely to look forward to. On the flip-side comes ‘Watatsumi’, an absolute charm as if it were controlling the sea’s movement from calm to storm. To end things in beauty, ‘Make It Sweat’ literally speaks for itself, a powerful punchy track delivering the dragon’s message from his underwater palace.

Don’t even know what we have been doing without Air Trance Communication all these years. After its resurrection the label just keeps delivering bombs. Again we can see the name Francesco Farfa there, also – with two great additions as remixers.

We just had the pleasure to host Alex Neri with a part of his versatile solo EP, now we’re looking into his remixing abilities. What we have here – signature percussion straight outta tribalistic 90s, some cathedral melodies… also from the 90s, maybe, the trancey part of those? Some sneaky background chants, that are making this track a bit bigroomier, then it is. And just a touch of that acidic bubbling in the middle.
