I have been in contact with Manuel Mind from Switzerland for a long time. He was one of the earliest supporters of that new sound called “Trance”, back in the early 90s, when I did my first recordings a Microglobe and Mindgear on MFS Records from Berlin and when Cosmic Baby and me compiled and produced “Tranceformed From Beyond”, the very first compilation exploring that new and exciting sound in a mixed format. When he asked me to contribute my Mindgear track “Don’t Panic” to his compilation “Sonic Trance”, I was so thrilled to receive a request from abroad, that I produced a special remix of that track called “Don’t Panic (Transpanic Mix)“, that has never been re-released on any other format so far.
We met for the first time at the end of 1995 on a rave in Zürich. Trance had already become a formula back then I was looking for deeper ways to express myself in music. He was playing on the Drum & Bass floor and I was a bit puzzled at first, since I could not really connect that sound with him. However, when he played “Timeless” by Goldie and other songs, I don’t recall anymore, music that consisted of deep basslines and emotional pads, I understood that his love for these musical elements made him embrace Drum & Bass, as a logical progression from the Trance sound of the early 90s.
We got in contact once again in the 10s, inevitably through the social networks. He noticed that I rediscovered Funk, the sound that made me turn to electronic music and drum machines in the first place. And I was stunned, that he also produced a similiar sound. I featured his tunes on my NuFunk show “Motherfunk” on BLN.fm and he asked me for a remix for his new tune “Strange Sounds”. So here once again a circle closes after 20 years.
At first I wanted to have this remix released as a mijkfunk Remix, but I don’t want to make these separations anymore. It was good to separate my first excursions into the realm of NuFunk and FutureBoogie under a new project name, but in 2013 it just makes sense to me to merge all the influences that I gathered over 2 decades into a Mijk van Dijk sound, may it be boogie infused or harmony infected.
So I’m really happy to present to you my “Mijk van Dijk Boogie Remix” of Manuel Mind & Valentino Tomasi’s  ”Strange Sounds” on Le Bal Records from Zürich/ Switzerland, with remixes by Foremost Poets, DJ Slugo and Mijk van Dijk.

Simples is a label created by Steve Mill with a view to simply releasing music that he likes, whether it be his own productions or music from friends. The roster boasts names like Javi Bora, Till Von Sein, Myazisto, Athlete Whippet and more.

Greek born artist Steve Mill lives between Berlin and Thessaloniki has been in and around the industry for many years as a DJ, producer, and avid digger & collector. Drawing on his cultural roots, Mill conjures up warm melodies and body moving beats. He has released on True Romance, Large Music, Madhouse Records, Dirt Crew and Moodmusic. A mainstay of the underground scene, he worked as a label manager at Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records no less. Working these days as Artist Services Manager at Beatport, Mill develops new talents to grow their profile across the electronic music industry.

On this release Steve Mill steps out with his ‘Poor’s Ego EP’ that is stacked to the max with remixes by man of the moment Crackazat, Barcelona’s Piem, and Brabe. Bristolian Ben Jacobs aka Crackazat opens with his version of the title cut, cleverly crafting his own jazz sample, combining it with the original vox and chords resulting in a rolling dusty house groove. Piem delivers a bass-heavy, tech house version where he uses the vocals as the stabs to make this more of a peak time choice. Brabe’s remix is for the warm-up hours. You’ll witness more clever use of the vocal lines here, Brabe adding his own pads to cosy up and surround the original composition.

On Steve Mill MPC Jam we see the label head flip the title cut, working a more musical affair this time where piano chords create a feel-good vibe reminding us of the long hot summer that’s just past. This collection closes out with the Original Mix where Mill's distinctive sound - full melodies, loads of warmth, and lashings of feel-good vibes – is on full display.

The black and white hoverbike flew out of the fog at breakneck speed and raced through the neon-lit urban jungle of the Havan metropolis. It manoeuvred steadily between the skyscrapers, trying to throw off the tail of the corporal's convoy, which was getting closer by the moment, preventing it from sneaking away with the seemingly easy-to-get Zero-G prototype. This weapon could create an anti-gravity field with a single shot and disable even the largest battle cruiser. That's why an elite squad of cyber-soldiers equipped with modified implants and gadgets was sent in pursuit not to allow them to ease off for a second.

With a sharp steering wheel jerk, Spacelunch turned off the main street and into a narrow valley. "Your turn!" – He shouted insistently over the engine's roar. Cat rose from the back
seat, took aim, and deftly fired his blaster. In a pall of sparks and smoke, the pursuer's hoverbike spun out of control and crashed into the building. Gritting their teeth, the friends raced through the winding maze of obstacles and tight turns. All senses were heightened with excitement. They could see a gap ahead and a way out into the slums.

Suddenly, a heavily armed police drone blocked the road, aiming its red gun lights at them. Spacelunch decisively grabbed Cat and jumped into the so-fortunately spotted sewer manhole, barely managing to dodge the gunfire barrage. After landing in a pitch-dark narrow tunnel, they moved on, with every step feeling the growing tension in the air and realizing that they could be found out at any moment. The darkness seemed endless. The only consolation was that they had the prototype in their hands, and now all they had to do was get to the spaceship and get off this freaking planet.
