Yoyaku Mix Sessions: Miroloja

Olga Korol's exploration of sound began in Odessa in the early 2000s, where she developed an innate curiosity for musical patterns. Through local grunge and trip-hop scenes, she eventually found her way to electronic music and immersed herself in records, playing at major venues in Ukraine, including the renowned (but now sadly defunct) Kazantip festival.

Best known for her work at the Body Parts label, the platform has showcased music from an astutely chosen range of guests over the years. Now based in Berlin (where she’s been residing for the past eight years), Olga is renowned both for her eclectic and a DJ as well as her ability to pick the right tune at the right time. Never afraid to challenge her audience, she’s a most welcome guest for our Ukraine Series mix, and her mix rounds off the series with serious aplomb. Aldo, the new alias, conceals the collaborative efforts of two talented artists: Lowris and Adema. United by a deep friendship and a shared passion for music, this dynamic duo injects a fresh energy into the scene.

For the past decade, Lowris has captivated audiences worldwide as an international touring artist. Prior to the unfortunate closure of the renowned Concrete club in Paris, he held a residency there, gracing the decks alongside some of the most esteemed figures in the industry. In 2013, he founded his own label, Aeternum Music, and has also released tracks on esteemed imprints such as Minibar and Nervmusic.

Since making his debut in 2010, Adema has been steadily making his mark on the electronic music scene. With his Full Scale project, he showcases his unique minimalistic sound in Belgium and France, garnering increasing recognition and acclaim. Building on his accomplishments, he has been a resident at Brussels' esteemed C12 club since 2018.

Now, Lowris and Adema have joined forces to collaborate on Adema's Full Scale project. Together, they have embarked on an exciting new venture—a vinyl imprint dedicated to breathing new life into this project. Anticipation is building as their inaugural release, featuring Olivier Romero with a remix by Tripmastaz, is set to hit your favorite record stores at the end of the summer. Already supported by influential artists like Raresh and Dyed Soundorom, this release is highly anticipated by music aficionados across the scene.

The last time we spoke to Herodot, the Romanian was walking us through the labyrinthine Sunrise Hub that he painstakingly helped to create from the ground up. Incredibly, that was 2019 and a hell of a lot has happened in that time. Above all else there has been an unreal amount of gigs for one of Sunrise’s silent assassins. A clear favourite in his home country he regularly drops science at the likes of Sunwaves, Electric Castle, as well as venturing further afield to the likes of Air House in South Korea, Club De Visionaere in Berlin and Fabrika in Tunisia. This is something that our newest addition to our podcast series has in spades. Federico Benedetti aka Onirik is a bit of a renaissance man, he is a DJ, an accomplished one at that, he is an artist, quite a good one with releases on Garage Hermétique, Off The Grid and Dopium Tribe. He also happens to have his own record label, a rather good one too, it's called Garage Hermétique, you will likely have heard of it. It is impossible to discuss Romanian artist Vlad Caia and not mention Amphia, SIT, and Amorf. All these different entities are intrinsically linked, but they most certainly do not define Vlad. Like his aforementioned brothers, Vlad is an accomplished solo artist and his critically received long players on Amphia are a mainstay in any discerning Ro lover collection. The demure appearance of Romanian artist Praslea belies his deep involvement in the music industry. With his name appearing on top events, especially in his home town of Bucharest, circa 2007, Florin Cunțan is a certified don of our scene. Having been inducted into the [a:pia:r] clique from an early age his “Jurnal De Bord” EP way back in 2009 he has hardly been prolific, but this is not where his real talent lies. With his solo credentials above reproach, it is par for the course for Praslea and his peers to perform together even at the biggest of events. So, it is hardly surprising that two artists from this family should join forces on the regular and that partnership is Praslesh. Not wishing to over comment on this duo, this does, however, go some way to explain the level of skill that Florin commands. Few artists command the legacy that Italian artist Alex Picone has at his disposal. Having long since relocated to Barcelona, Alex is perhaps one of the busiest men in the business. Between running Small Black Dots, both record store and distribution arm, he also runs the interconnected seekers label and series of parties, and then there is also the artist. Alex is a regular face on the touring circuit and should be sought out whenever his name appears on a lineup near you. His sheer experience in the game is worthy alone of the many plaudits he receives, but it is his tenacity and willingness to keep striving for the sonic audience. [continue reading at...
