I know we say this almost every week, but for our next edition of Trommel InSession we have something very special for you. The moniker Respond/React might be new but it is comprised of three artists that are certainly not new to the scene. Artists Man/Ipulate, Massaï, and Lamalice will no doubt conjure up lengthy Sentaku parties helmed by their founders and regulars that have helped the Parisian / London based label and event series to flourish. The ethos of the triple trouble combo offers fresh perspective in the relationship between crowd, the music and the emotion that comes with hearing a new track at home and the effect that it has on the audience at a gig. 

The three have illustrious solo adventures and so the prospect of all three artists working together behind the decks is mouth-watering. Luckily for you this ethos was cemented in the live recording of their set for the French brothers Mates in Bordeaux. At the Sentaku showcase Man/Ipulate, Massaï, and Lamalice deftly switch between banging house, grinding basslines and insistent breaks all with a special synergy between them that resulted in this vibe heavy recording.

London-based selector and Spaced co-founder, Tho, has risen to a position of prominence over the last decade for his honed ear and talent for joining the dots between disparate styles.  

Off the back of well-regarded podcasts for Timeless, Dimensions & The Ghost he graces the series with this sublime hour that's difficult to pin down; equal parts spacious and groovy but with enough twists and turns to hold attention throughout.

Few artists command the legacy that Italian artist Alex Picone has at his disposal. Having long since relocated to Barcelona, Alex is perhaps one of the busiest men in the business. Between running Small Black Dots, both record store and distribution arm, he also runs the interconnected seekers label and series of parties, and then there is also the artist. Alex is a regular face on the touring circuit and should be sought out whenever his name appears on a lineup near you. His sheer experience in the game is worthy alone of the many plaudits he receives, but it is his tenacity and willingness to keep striving for the sonic audience. [continue reading at...

Trommel.191 - Alex Picone

Distrikt—comprised of 宀 residents Jordy, Scott, and Justin—are undoubtedly making their mark in the city. In our opinion, they are Southeast Asia's newest aliens, sending signals across regional shores and bending the rules in their own way (as it should be!).

On their second-year anniversary night, they brought together a pairing of two familiar faces in the Asia region, both sharing a similar interest in running a record label, music with no boundaries, B-sides that could turn Hare Krishna into a bad boy, and finding witchcraft gems on YouTube.  
The results are in this recording—we’ll let the music speak for itself.

Since the release of his Colors EP on 129 rec, our boi Raph has been fine-tuning his long-awaited live debut. The reptile farmer performed across multiple venues in Europe, with recent highlights ranging from the upper deck of our favourite Berlin boat, to deep in the ravy woods of the Cévennes.

French but living in Seoul for over ten years, Timothée has long been somewhat of an enigma in the scene's fast, trance-tinged wilderness, releasing a stretch of understated 12"s, using different aliases (Prophecy 47, Dj Jacuzziy..) When he's not making or spinning records, you'll find the Ring Club resident selling them behind the counter at Junction, the excellent store he owns in Seoul which has also recently begun life as a label, Junction Forest. 

Known for impeccable mixing technique and taste, both shine bright during this 80-minute dive into his bag. Strap in and get ready for his Dimensions debut this summer.

Zip is co-founder of the label Perlon, is familiar with the dancefloors around the world and famous for his tremendous minimal shifts within the 4/4 scheme. He has an illustrious musical history which began in 1986 as singer in the band Second Voice. In 1992 he moved to Frankfurt and joined the EBM band Bigod 20. After several releases the band split. In 1996 he got together with Markus Nikolai and Chris Rehberger to form the audio-visual project Pile. In 1997 he and Nikolai founded the Perlon label, on which he has released under the pseudonyms Dimbiman, Pantytec (with Sammy Dee) and Narcotic Syntax (with James Dean Brown). In 1999 the SuPERLONgevity compilation was released, featuring 'Bushes', a track that has since garnered chart-topping remixes from the likes of Derrick Carter and Fatboy Slim.

Zip also recorded with Peter "Baby" Ford and has appeared on Ford's label PAL SL. He is a regular guest DJ in clubs around the world and holds residencies at Robert Johnson (Offenbach) and the Panorama Bar (Berlin). He participates in the Narod Niki project, occasional collective laptop live jams initiated by Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin. He has released tracks and remixes on Perlon, Playhouse, Force Inc, Novamute and others.
