I HEART THE MONSTER HERO release their debut album ‘Rhythm & Pals’ through Crocfinger Records on 30th June. They have been breaking hearts and Casio keyboards in Dublin since 2011, garnering support for their 'fuzzed-up swirl of pop-laminated psych punk.' They are a  psychedelic synth pop-rock delight with buckets of steam . Yes steam!  IHTMH are practitioners in aural alchemy, creating magic from crystals, rams blood, holy candle wax and Casio circuit-boards. The album is preceded by the first single to be lifted from the record, the up-beat ‘Toni Bailey’, on 16th June - a tale of ill-fitting faces and an ill-fitting drummer. 

Anchored around the vocal talents of Andy Walsh, IHTMH reference ELO and Cars but hand-break the psych-wagon into the space between Suicide and Bongwater

The Ewig Weibliche EP, Baba-Mužik's first new release since the 2008 album Love and the Western World, reveals tunes and texts from those heady last years of the new century's first decade, thus harkening back to Jon's “late Petersburg period,” or, if you prefer, the era when Tim lived mostly on trains, mostly between Gliwice and Kraków. Lyrically, however, the record picks up right where LATWW left off-- in the paralyzing, hallucinatory clutches of some emanation or other of La Belle Dame Sans Merci, watching the usual reversals and recognitions unfold.

Andromedea first came to life in an electrical storm of monstrously misguided ambition, but the refracted lyrics sparked a resurgence of Platt, visionary-engineer, enabling you, dear listener, to look skyward with new eyes, to be spellbound by the glow of synthetic stars. In dull reality, meanwhile, a delirious infatuation crowned a series of chance meetings on trains, strung together by a grey scarf seemingly threaded with the very fibers of chthonic Amor Fati, and burned brightly but... briefly. 

Underexposed, by contrast, chronicles Jon's ineluctable envelopment in a beguiling absence of brightness somewhere in the depths of the Petersburg demimonde. During extensive sessions in Greenpoint, the song evolved from an understated uptown shuffle into a messianic baroque-metal anthem, lacking only an orchestra or choirs of angels, until Jon snapped the lads back into their senses and the present tautly melancholic gem emerged.

Silesian Springtime was composed by Tim, or rather, took possession of him, on a train ride back from Lviv to Gliwice in a period of penance following a musically ultra-productive but romantically ill-starred visit to Jon, Emily and Isaac in St. Petersburg. Jon and Tench put flesh on the song's skeleton in between rehearsals in Copenhagen.

The “Seaside” portion of The Seaside and Japan registers Tim's fleeting impressions of a visit to the lovely town of Kołobrzeg, where, guided by the moon's reflection in the river Parsęta late one night (Good Friday-- in his Jesus year!), he found his way to a club called Antidotum (The Antidote), and a gossamer vision of harmony yielded to a tragicomic series of misunderstandings. The “Japan” sequence grew out of a tantalizing encounter at the wedding celebration of his younger brother in Tokushima (sometimes called “the Gliwice of Japan”) later in April of that year. The intriguing concept of a cocktail containing a mixture of oolong tea and shochu, embodying the Symbolist notion of радость-страдание (joy in suffering), provides the key to the puzzle. If the antidote is sometimes the disease, perhaps the reverse can be true as well. To accompany the piebald words, Jon dreamed up an astonishingly fresh and smooth arrangement, relying on (hitherto-despised) major and major-seventh chords.

The band thank F.M. Dostoevsky, D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths, Becker Mining Systems, the Brothers Grimm, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, O.E. Mandelstam, Mo Ti, U2, Bob Dylan, Anita Ward, Ronald Reagan, and Mikhail Gorbachev for the EP's intertextual references.
