One of the most mastodont of modern eclectic underground scene Malka Tuti label is celebrating 7 years of existence. Created by two wunderkind with a great taste in music and understanding how to run a record label (which is Guy Kenneth aka Katzele also know as resident of Berlin's HOR  radio and Asaf Samuel, both born in Tel-Aviv), they quickly won recognition of the most interesting and original producers and DJs.
So now they deservedly celebrating their 7th annyversary, with MTX001 VA - SHEVA (Jesus Christ i can't believe they did only first VA in 7 years), before that MT were hosting artists as: Black Merlin, Tapan, Red Axes, Decha, Linja, Cosmo Vitelli, Die Orange, Khidja in the name of few.

We gave it to them straight: “Let us remix your song or weʼre taking all the meatballs.”

Having heard the baggy psychedelic beauty that is ʻRushing Through My Mindʼ on Lauren Laverneʼs 6Music show, we thought we could do a number on it. Turn it into a psychedelic disco record (with added meatballs). We think we managed it, reliving the rushy highs from indie-danceʼs finest moments of 1991.

For those of you unaware of the splendid Swedish rockersʼ groovy workings, they have already released two albums, debut Horse Dance in 2015 and last yearʼs excellent Mirage, from which the ecstatic ʻRushing...ʼ comes.

The release comes on Joe Bugner-style heavyweight vinyl (180g) complete with Instrumental and Radio Edit. Mang Dynasty is Ray Mang and Bill Brewster.

Manchester’s The Slow Readers Club are probably the biggest band you’ve never heard of. But that’s all about to change.

The Slow Readers Club are Aaron Starkie (vocals), Kurtis Starkie (guitar and vocals), James Ryan (bass) and David Whitworth (drums). They are a Manchester based four piece who specialise in dark and brooding indie electro that has drawn comparisons with Interpol, The Killers and The National and which feels equally at home in big arenas and festival fields as it does in intimate surroundings.

Formed in 2010, they’ve taken the long road to recognition. Their self-titled debut album featured live favourites like One More Minute, Feet On Fire, Sirens and Block Out The Sun, but despite rave reviews, they remained firmly under the radar. Many bands would have called it a day, but their self-belief, coupled with a growing band of influential bloggers and radio presenters, kept them going. 

The phrase “underground phenomenon” doesn’t do justice to what this four-piece have achieved to date. Self-funded and self-managed with no more than word of mouth and an album called Cavalcade at their disposal, they sold out The Ritz in Manchester two months in advance last year and have just repeated the trick with The Albert Hall. Not only that they went to London and sold out Oslo and The Borderline with their army of fans and their ubiquitous “READERS” chant as well as playing to growing crowds around the rest of the country.

Based between Marseille and Brussels, the record label spearheaded by Lion's Drums and DC Salas now shares the first record of 2020 and it's a piece of mouth-watering magnificence by Pletnev and Panorama Channel. Next to the three provided originals, there is a stellar set of remixes on display by Yu Su and Simple Symmetry. With the latter airing through our channels today, we see the brotherly duo hit the brakes on the BPM and deliver a downtempo dosage of tripped-out chug. TIP!

‘Μετά Το Ρέιβ’ is the original debut LP by Maria Spivak, a rawly expressive set of ambient synth- pop inspired by her Cypriot heritage, and channelling mystic vibes from Lena Platonos to Drexciya - very special stuff, indeed.

The latest addition to Ecstatic’s sprawling cabal, Spivak arrives fully formed with a quietly penetrative sound, layering her haunted but coolly melodic vocals and synth pads around bare- bones, DIY production that makes a virtue of “mistakes” and grit in-the-mix.

Lessons from ’80s post-punk to ambient-pop and trip hop inform Spivak’s music as much as her observations on Cypriot sociopolitics, culture, and nature. But the references are more suggestive than concrete, often imperceptibly woven into her songs with a fine sort of folk art filigree that feels timeless but directly effective within her field, recalling the low-key magick of everyone from Teresa Winter to HTRK, yet gauzily delivered from her own, enchanted perspective.

Spivak has worked towards this seemingly effortless style and conception of atmosphere for a decade, flowering from MA studies in Architecture in the UK, to develop her roots in Cyprus, where she draws on the energies of a small but active local scene, as well as the island’s agitated recent history, against a backdrop of myth-inspiring topography, that all help imbue her style of sound sculpture with a distinctive, quietly conflicted soul.

Her first bouquet of songs are intimate but prickly, ancient and futuristic creations, unfurling from primitive dream-pop in ‘Minus The motivational Speech’, to the nerve-tweaking chamber blooz of ‘Hardware Store Ballad’ with a deeply arresting, story-telling style that’s naturally brought to
life in the music; from the ephemeral sensuality of ‘Sec’, sounding like Lena Platonos meets The Other People Place, to the haunted dancehall swoon of ‘Enough Throwbacks’, thru her title song’s seething/soothing synth candescence, and the lo-fi Cosey-meets-BoC beauty‘Σχεδόν Σίγουρα (with H4S).’
