Despite being a small town in Norway surrounded by seven mountains, the Hall of Fame of Bergen is home to many world famous names including Edvard Grieg, Erlend Øye and Röyksopp. It’s also home to Made In Sane, an enigmatic duo with a passion for all things analogue and Eighties. They also have a knack for melody, as they display in their enchanting debut Flying Circuits.

Remixes come from Man Power and Mørkeby. Not much is known about Man Power. We know the mysterious whizz kid lives in Europe and he has a release coming up on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs... Second remix comes from Mørkeby, yet another Norwegian disco talent we can add to the Eskimo list next to Prins Thomas, Todd Terje and Lindstrøm.
 
Flying Circuits is taken from The Pink Collection, the first installment in a brand new Eskimo compilation series. Out now.

Derrick May's seminal Transmat imprint is back for its 30th anniversary, releasing 3 new artists. First in line is Japanese artist Hiroshi Watanabe, aka Kaito, whose Multiverse EP is picking up the classic Motorcity sound and giving it an incredibly tasty 21st century spin. Strange Alliances holds two striking and contemporary tracks by the Tel Aviv native – who also has releases out on Turbo and Life and Death - plus remixes by Trikk and Rebolledo. And so it seems the Amsterdam based label has another winner on their hands. 
With Autarkic having an exceptional personality one would expect the same from his music. And this is exactly what you get with Strange Alliances, as his originality shines through on both tracks. Interesting fact is that Autarkic used a lot of live instruments and his own vocals on both tracks, adding to the ingenuity of the DGTL 006 release.
Starting with Strange Alliances, which begins with a wavey and rhythmic path until the driving bassline and signature trumpet sounds kick in. Strange Alliances continues into the hallucinogenic vocals and an acid line that is highly infectious and keeps you in a trance until the very end of the track.
The EP moves on to Stutter Jazz; a funky and dreamy rhythmical track with – just like in Strange Alliances – the live elements clearly present too. As the track moves to the end more and more details are passing.
On the B-side Trikk has kept Strange Alliances almost completely in tact, but poured it with eerie sounding, long stretched synth chords that expand on into the break. After this the synths make space for a drum-line until the track fades with just the beat holding up.
Rebolledo tweaked the wobbly bassline a bit and stripped everything off of the track making it stand out on itself while never steering far from the original version.
Every five to six releases DGTL asks a new designer or artist to create the sleeves of the EPs. For the Strange Alliances release Tim Straver and Boris Acket produced one of their 3D designs based on Autarkic’s music and a couple of question they asked him.
DGTL is revisiting Tel Aviv for the second time on September 29th for another edition of their festival. Just like last year Autarkic will play one of his live sets during DGTL Tel Aviv keeping the Amsterdam x Tel Aviv connection alive.

Freeride Millenium head to St Petersburg and the Delicate Features duo for another excellent EP that follows previous great outings on the label.

This pair is made up of singer Radmila Nikogosian and composer Pavel Astvatsaturian and they have consistently put out music that grabs the imagination. Labels like Not Not Fun as well as Freeride Millenium have released their sounds and ensured the pair grow ever more prominent in the scene with their superbly emotional music that draws on ambient, abstract and downtempo.

Opening up the EP is ‘Brume’, a widescreen ambient masterpiece that has fluttering keys and gorgeous pads extending off to the horizon. The majestic ‘Because I Want To’ introduces gentle drums but the focal point again is the exquisite melody, deft keys and angelic vocals that bring heavenly feel.

The halfway point is marked by the super slow and heavy drums of ‘Nude’, a spacious dub cut with ambient beauty soothing your soul, then ‘Pulkovo Lights’ is an eight-minute journey into bumpy rhythms that feature more fantastic synth craft and grand composition. This most delightful of musical trips closes with the stunning melancholy of ‘Way Home’ which has vulnerable keys and acoustic guitars drifting in space.

This is timeless music that is beautifully crafted and is utterly absorbing from start to finish.

Acid Pauli’s unique brand of organic, psychedelic electronic music has found the perfect home on the label he runs with Nico Stojan. 
Mainacht, the latest release, sees Martin Gretschmann in playful mood - the title track skips along in a breezy, upbeat fashion, peppered with bass licks, congas and synth squiggles - an aural pick-me-up for our times. 
Ahmed locks into a groove from the start, fully utilizing Gretschmann’s knack for accentuating the space between the notes. Using only a few elements he creates a powerful moment of euphoric excitement. 
Legends of Saturn again sees the maestro exploring various bass guitar tones and patterns, creating a track 
that balances a live feel with perfectly shaped electronics. 
Completing the EP, Abrains is cut from the same cloth - a bouncy groove meets trippy effects and melodic snippets suspended in space.

Next up on Nico Stojan and Acid Pauli’s Ouïe label is the Tia EP by Cologne-based producer Jonathan Kaspar. 

Fitting perfectly into the label’s roster, as the 2018 predecessor Mera, this is three tracks of tricky, leftfield dance music that will appeal to the more adventurous electronic music aficionados.  

Lead track Tia is a brooding epic, unfolding in unexpected ways as the rougher edges give way to dreamy pads and a tight, loopy groove keeps things in motion. 

Bigna shares a similar aesthetic - an intricate percussive groove provides the foundation for some minimalistic synth explorations and textures. 

Elin rounds off the digital release, a slow burning heater with live percussion, thick bass and atmospheric pads and blasts of noise.
