The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

From heavy sample work tracks in the style of Todd Edwards to more monotonous tech-house groovers which drag you into hypnosis".

Cologne based Kolter (fka DJOKO) continues to fire on all cylinders in the coming period, adding to his acclaimed back catalogue, and filling in his calendar with further exciting dates on a global scale.
The evolving artist has found himself rising at an alarming rate, and there seems to be no signs of slowing down, showcasing his effortless versatility to create all strains of house whether that be energetic big room sounds, or deeper productions the blossoming producer has got you covered.
Alongside all of this, Kolter also manages to find the time to propel his revered HOOVE label into the electronic music stratosphere, pushing a slew of dynamite releases, and hosting events in their home city of Cologne. Alongside Kolter’s own label, his dance floor dynamic productions have found him releasing on some of the most sought-after labels in the game, PIV, Shall Not Fade, Berg Audio, and fellow man of the moment, Chris Stussy’s, Up The Stuss imprint,
alongside some ongoing collaborations between the two beatmakers under their BBC Radio endorsed Stussko alias.
Autumn of 2022 will also see Kolter share his debut LP which lands comfortably on the Berg Audio outfit, and will play the role of the last chapter of his “Endless Explorations” series, innovative and charming productions on an integral label and a fitting end to his trilogy there. In 2023, the Cologne based artist will also launch a second imprint, Koltrax, which will focus on finally releasing some of his most in-demand unreleased productions. 
As well as offering an array of moods and energies within his releases, Kolter has a certain knack for his fluid, and genre melding DJ sets which have certainly taken off in recent years, the talented German has found himself setting the tone at Rex Club, Ibiza hotspot DC-10, Amsterdam’s Shelter, Tomorrowland, and several tours in corners of the globe such as Canada, Australia, and South America.
A name firmly on the tips of tongues of tastemakers around the world, Kolter continues to fuel the prolific and incredible fire he has created in recent years, carrying this enthusiastic energy and raw passion into seemingly the most integral chapter of his career thus far.

After its sold out inaugural edition last year, Pleinvrees returns to the Amsterdam sporting green space Riekerhaven on Saturday, September 5th, for a festival experience containing much more than just music. Expect familiar names, but also many new heroes, and also featuring an absurdist Andhim-stage, the pub, and a new cabinet of curiosities.

Dutchman Jan van der Lugt aka Tsepo is now a firm fixture on the house scene after bubbling under the surface for a couple of years while honing his DJ skills. Because of this, he had the honour of being an official resident of the late and legendary Amsterdam club Trouw during its final months. Laying down discerned sets that always leave him digging deeper and deeper, he is a DJ that never fails to connect with a room whether warming up, closing or rocking the peak hours. At Pleinvrees Heroes this Saturday, Tsepo will be playing a b2b with his new-found musical soulmate Konstantin Sibold.

Today’s Truancy Volume comes from our favourites AKA the boys behind Bicep. We first heard of Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar a few years ago through their very own blog Feel My Bicep, and they have been two of our top selectors ever since. Seeing the London-via-Belfast duo establish themselves as some of the most captivating DJs and producers around has been a joy to witness – the likes of “Silk” (‘11), Satisfy (‘13) and Circles (‘14) still being as popular as ever round Truants’ way. Their recent schedule also speaks volumes about their current thrive and popularity among listeners across the board, comfortably delving between house, techno and disco whilst also having plenty of time for Bollywood soundtracks, atmospheric drum and bass and new age ambient music in their downtime. Following a limited 12” for their XOYO residency and their Just EP on Aus Music, they’ve just released the mighty Dahlia EP in collaboration with fellow producer and long-time friend Hammer. Gerd Janson also recently enlisted them to contribute to his Musik For Autobahns 2 compilation, with their sublime track entitled “Carmine” and you can also look out for a track called "Closing Sequence" forthcoming on 50 Weapons as part of the label's final run of releases. 

Having carved up such a reputation for themselves, it was no wonder Bicep were asked to lead a residency at London’s XOYO over this year's summer period: they just finished their 13-week workout last Saturday, which consisted of a strong curated roster including the likes of Derrick May, The Black Madonna, Palms Trax and Space Dimension Controller. The two have an equally crazy agenda coming up: from their next Feel My Bicep night at Amsterdam Dance Event featuring the likes of Midland, Optimo and Sandrien as well as their next Australia/NZ tour.

The pair has unquestionably been responsible for some of our fondest music-related memories over the years: from sunny afternoons at Dekmantel and ZeeZout, to getting caught by surprise by means of their Dominica edit at other festivals. Their final instalment at XOYO was also one for the books – going from “Just” to Art Crime and Devilfish in proper confetti-canon style fashion. Featuring recent tracks from Mikael Seifu and Dawit Eklund to 2000 era house from Joshua Iz, we’re thrilled to share Bicep’s mix for Truants with you. Equally as uplifting as it is danceable, it is more importantly 100% Bicep vibes. We also spoke to Andy and Matt about their creative processes on both a musical and visual level, what music from beyond the dancefloor they’re currently loving, and their upcoming album.
