I spent Saturday midday in my apartment in Tisno prepping for the set, I had to create a story picking up from Rabih Beaini's extraordinary and deep set – to 'Mr. Party' Identified Patient. I'm happy and proud with the story that I created, slowly pumping up the crowd more and more, getting deeper into the night. It all came together in the end, 3 hours long."

Stephan Laubner/STL's Homework LP was one of the first records I bought when I started DJing 'properly' back in 2007. 

If u don't know STL - very lofi, brittle, dubby, wooden, not overly bassy, discordant, minimal, scratchy, lush, strangely funky stuff, beautiful in its own way. And he does these locked grooves on most of his records, which I've mixed up here into a two hour special at 133⅓bpm. I recorded it with a new rotary EQ mixer (thanks Dean!) and then ran it through my Roland RE-201 Space Echo (thanks Maciej!)...

U might be surprised (if u listen) how organic and varied u can make a single loop, with the right EQing, cutting, boosting, fader tricks and so on - it was a lot of fun to mix, but I don't think this is a DJ thing just for other DJs.

Life films us exactly. Our experience of it, though, lies beyond images and descriptions. Emotions, coming in irrational flashes, are non-figurable. We lose our little connection to them very quickly. We look for forms with this in mind : so they can take us to meet the subconscious. Chain reaction was a sublabel of Basic Channel founded in 1995. Peter Kuschnereit aka Substance, René Löwe aka Vainqueur, Torsten Pröfrock aka Various artists and Resilent, Andy Mellwig, Thomas Köner aka Porter Ricks, Gerhard Behles, Robert Henke, Torsten Pröfrock aka Monolake formed some of the artists of the now defunkt label.

Chain reactions is a mix tribute to the label / 1995-2003, it is influenced by glitch techno, dub and ambient. Sounds of CR are captured within tiny fragments of time and then within one’s mindspace. I think it’s important to play this mix on a decent system so you can really hear and feel the interactions between the delays, the warm basslines and the soundscapes that surrounds them.

Unsere Gefühle, unsere Affekte – sie strömen in irrationalen Momentaufnahmen auf uns ein und sind in ihrer Intensität nicht messbar. Schnell entgleiten uns diese Wahrnehmungen in ihrer Flüchtigkeit. Mit dieser Prämisse sehnen wir uns immer wieder nach deren Gestalt: Damit sie uns dem Unterbewussten begegnen lassen. Chain Reaction wurde im Jahre 1995 als Sublabel von Basic Channel gegründet. Die verwendete Music von Chain Reaction ist dabei vollkommen subjektiv motiviert verwendet worden. Um der Musik gerecht zu werden sollte sie auf einer angemessenen Stereoanlage abgespielt werden, damit die Wechselwirkung zwischen Delays, warmen Bassläufen und den alles umgebenden Klangkonstrukten erfahrbar wird.

Shed is one of our favourite artists and definitely a no bullshit guy. His discography, including all his different names & projects, will impress you more than his social media appearance. As it should be. We really appreciate that he contributed a mix to our podcast series!

For our first Truancy Volume of the year we welcome Peverelist, a producer and DJ whose long ties with Bristol have given him the means to document a thriving and visionary community over the last thirteen years. Genres have held almost no relevancy to him throughout his career, and he's described his vision and role as a label owner as simply being able to forge and create new narratives in dance music while simultaneously showcasing the talent the city of Bristol regularly had to offer. Whilst a large part of his story harks back to breaking down the framework of what the-then emerging sound of dubstep could be, it's the genre diversifying nature of his three labels, Punch Drunk, Livity Sound and sister label Dnuos Ytivil that have made him such an important figure in UK dance music. As a producer himself, it's almost too easy to recall to mind any of the classics or the one-day-to be in his discography - the now Drake sampled "Roll With The Punches", "Over Here" with Appleblim, "Aztec Chant", "Infinity Is Now", "Under Clearing Skies" from his most recent album Tessellations and his numerous collaborations with Kowton, Asusu and Hodge have made him revered by fans and his peers. 

Where many young producers from Bristol will cite Peverelist as an influence, he in turn will say Smith & Mighty paved the way for artists such as himself and and fellow DJ and friend, Pinch. Ashley Road Sessions 88-94, a collaborative label release via Punch Drunk and Tectonic that came out in November, marks the 30th anniversary of Rob Smith and Ray Mighty's first single as a duo. As well as kickstarting our 2019 Truancy Volumes, we caught up with Peverelist to discuss the landmark compilation, his working working relationship with Rob Smith, producing IDLE50 and the element of learning as you go when running a label.
