With what was mostly a full and fruitful year for us with many beautiful moments, we now turn our eyes forward to what is looking to be a very exciting year for us at Phonica as we walk into our 20th year of being alive. 2022 saw our mix series get even more killer contributions from artists like Paramida, Sally C, Fred P, Eden Burns, Alex Kassian, Erol Alkan and more. 2023's series line up plans to keep moving up and we have opened this years mix season in the capable hands of two of the finest DJ/Producers doing it right now. Bringing nothing but powerful, euphoric and goddess energies it can only be Octo Octa and Eris Drew of T4T Luv NRG. Amazingly celebrated for their strand of psychedelic, rolling progressive, trancey-house and break rhythms we can't think of two better selector's to take on our series. With an excellently curated compilation and mix for our good friends at Fabric last year as well as two banging cassettes on T4T we can't begin to imagine what this year has in-store for Maya and Eris but we have no doubt it's even more on the upward trajectory! Most likely to the heavens and back! We had a chat with Maya and Eris to see what they have been up to lately and little about how they approached the mix.

Our 93rd Truancy Volume is delivered by Berlin expat Jay Donaldson. Having previously produced music under a variety of monikers, 2013 marked the release of the first Palms Trax EP on new London-based label Lobster Theremin. Equation nodded to both Chicago and Detroit in equal measure with three floor ready house jams that have never failed to get us grooving. With the end result coming in as one of our favourite debut EPs of last year, it made perfect sense to get in contact with the man himself and have him deliver us a mix. We also found time to sit down and have a chat; discussing his earliest musical experiences, his live performances and the merits of German Haribo.

Time for a dose of much welcome dance floor positivity from the eclectic mind of NYC native, now Berlin based DJ @gabriellekwarteng! Born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx, Gabrielle's unique musical appreciations stem from a early diet of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian Afrobeat cassettes, alongside the American disco, funk and jazz her Ghanaian parents had on heavy rotation at home. 

These days, through a wonderfully curated monthly residency on Brooklyn's @thelotradio, Gabrielle's distinctive curiosities can be heard ranging from West African disco to Brazilian funk, Middle Eastern electro and house-inspired ‘90s tracks from places like India, Japan, South Africa and South Korea. 

Here Gabrielle takes us on a 'semi-post quarantine' journey full of dance music nostalgia for the soul, finding solace in uptempo rhythms to spread positive vibes to those in need!
