That's how electric cars worked for years (1970s-1990s) -- take a pre-existing car, electrify it, sell them. Otherwise they have to build a three-wheeled (two front steer, one rear drive) microcar/quasi-motorcycle because the batteries were so heavy for so long. So you see cars like the Wheego LiFe (2011-13; Chinese Smart car knockoff body with US guts and software), various "Voltswagon" Beetle conversions in the late 1970s, the Jeep Electruck DJ-5E (American Motors sold these to the US Mail), and various others.
