Producer, DJ, fervent music aficionado, and record collector Steve Mill has honed a distinctive sound that resonates across dancefloors. Born in Greece and dividing his time between Berlin, London, and Thessaloniki, Steve Mill weaves his rich cultural heritage into evocative melodies and infectious rhythms.

The God Given EP released 12th May on Dirt Crew Recordings showcases Steve Mill’s musical talent and hints at the enormous music collection of which he is able to dip into. It’s the follow up to his great label debut “Love Attack EP” from last year.

The title track, God Given featuring Bongani Mehlomakhulu comes out of the traps as a fully formed Balearic stomper. Dreamy ice-cream-van marimbas enter the fray and deep tribal bass completes the audioscape, setting the scene perfectly for Bongani’s vocals. Thought-provoking lyrics from the viewpoint of someone born without a silver spoon in their mouth but still with the upbeat optimism to succeed in life. “Positive mindset brings a change of flavour / Overcoming challenges helps you stay centred.” Wise words indeed from this poolside masterpiece.

Steve Mill explains: Working with Bongani was super easy and uncomplicated. I first heard his work on a Shur-I-Kan mix. I immediately loved his voice and powerful lyrics. Kid Fonque introduced us, and we started chatting. When I sent him the instrumental, I asked him to write lyrics about the struggle of an unprivileged life. A few days later, God Given was ready.

Next up is Copenhagen Ride - a deep house drumline washed in broad watercolour strokes of warm, laid-back synths. Think of a hazy dusk; daytime giving way to the first twinkling lights of the city as afternoon becomes evening.

Steve Mill gives us the lowdown: This is a tribute track to a holiday with one of my best friends in Copenhagen a few years ago. We’d blast some amazing deep house tunes in the car and travel around the city and the suburbs. The warm sounds inspired this super deep track that came out so easily, having that picture in my mind. The minimal perfection of the city would always inspire me.

Dye the Bip takes us from dusk and onto the dancefloor. This track has an infectiously catchy hook line that will stay in your head way after you return home from the club.

Steve Mill recalls: Dye The Bip came to me one morning. The lead was inspired by the Krystal Klear sound: Easy in the ear, yet catchy and meaningful. The pads and the arpeggio based bassline followed. Some big reverbs on the snare drum compliment the whole package of the track. I had a tune that you can hum and that was my goal from the start!

Whatever It Takes, released 2nd June on Tensnake’s label True Romance, has all the hallmarks of an instant club classic, with truly beautiful high-fidelity production values. The track kicks straight in with a driving bass drum and rhythmic bongos. Hi-hats join the party just in time for the wickedly catchy bass synth to drop. From then, the track builds with fresh layers of synth and vocal samples slathered generously on top, until, at 2:20, Tee Amara’s stunning vocal fully drops: ‘All I wanna do is love you / Even if that has to hurt. Whatever it takes to soothe you / I will be there for you.’ The Berlin-based vocalist’s beautifully soulful R&B style a perfect fit for Steve Mill’s trademark House groove.

William Florelle, the London-born, Lisbon-based DJ and producer, joins forces with Soul Groove and Footshooter for a remix experience that transcends traditional genre boundaries. The 'Stuck Remixes' release is a fusion of Florelle's “Stuck” previously released on Feedasoul, with Soul Groove and Footshooter’s own twists. Soul Groove’s intoxicating blend of Jazz influences and percussive prowess elevates the track to new heights, as Footshooter’s more laid back dreamy style creates a mesmerizing upbeat movement.

From the opening beat, listeners are drawn into a rhythmic wonderland, where syncopation and melody intertwine. Florelle's vocals float over the rich undercurrents of house and broken-beat grooves, painting a vast soundscape that is simultaneously hypnotic and evocative. Soul Groove injects his unmistakable flair into the remix, masterfully blending a lively percussion with reverb-soaked vocals creating a dreamlike expansive ambiance that fits perfectly with the quickened tempo. Soul Groove’s vast spectrum of global Jazz influences shines in as soon as he weaves sultry notes of the saxophone that just fall seamlessly back into the chopped beats of the track.

With a different spin, Footshooter on a much more anticipatory footing, eases us into the track with a wobbly synth sound that echoes throughout the track as the vocals and broken rhythm remain the center focus of the sound. In his classical style of a broken beat and atmospheric synths, the “Stuck” remix is no different mashing funky and dreamy creating an almost entrancing mood.

Tensnake's True Romance have long been propagators of modern interpretations of Disco and their next release sees an expansion of this trope courtesy of Maltese producer AP working alongside Sulta Selects affiliate Gimbrère.

Here, the duo lay out 3 kinetic productions that meld Prog, Italo and House. The vocal version of 'Love On The Rock's kicks things off with a tapestry of dramatic synths that bring vivid colour to racing drums and an exuberant vocal line. A well crafted breakdown sees melodies treated with hi- pass submersion before an elastic tension is let go to rapturous effect.

The instrumental version of 'Love On the Rocks' provides variety for the DJ bag before 'Add Up' again, draws from Italo influences as a saw-tooth bass line darts under glacial sweeps that render a pastel sunset. Another elongated breakdown gives way and certifies dance floor efficacy, rounding off a highly reliable collection of club tools.

Next up on Magnetic's premiere slate is a nu-jazz workout that comes from a fresh talent from Berlin by the name of Dr. Sud. Real name unknown, this new producer doesn't have very much material on his résumé, but his Heading South E.P. due out this Friday foretells a career that could line him up with other current stars that occupy the jazz spectrum within house music. The likes of Crackazat and Jimpster come to mind.  

Back to present day though. We'd like to you introduce you to "Mondgesicht." A downtempo, percussive delight that belongs in your chill playlist this Winter.
