Alma Negra are back with more sunshine grooves to nice up open air dancefloors and lift the spirit from Berlin to Bali from Mombasa to Lagos.  The ‘San Jon EP’ is the debut release from ‘The Alma Negra Live Band’.  Although the band has had many international gigs and adventures, this is the first release that Alma Negra has recorded with their team of talented musicians live in the Alma Negra studio. Co-ops with a myriad of musicians has become an integral part of the Alma Negra sound of today and over the past 5 years.

 

This EP is one for the live heads as ‘Mombasa to Lagos’ kicks off this head-nodding package from the Basel based collective plus their live band members.  It’s a straight up Afrobeat dance work with electronic influences laced throughout its journey from East to West.  ‘San Jon’ takes its inspiration from the street procession in Cabo Verde which celebrates the religious festival of St Jon. This cut is played out over a 3/4 rhythm with drums and the loose-limbed swanky dancer firmly in mind.  

 

‘Taxi Radio’ is one wild journey where up-tempo beats, hints of reggae, wild frenetic percussion, and some nasty synths are all combined on this pacey cut. With his remix, Mehmet Aslan expands the rhythmic variety with his Soca interpretation of ‘San Jon’, resulting in a tripped-out joint to be played deep into the extended hours of the club.  ‘Alma Negra's Night Mix’ of the title track rounds out the EP with a deeper and more moody interpretation of the original.

Never failing to maintain positivity and balmy vibes - Tensnake presents the latest EP on his own label True Romance.

Following releases from Jozef K, 3kelves, Dylan C. Greene and Steve Mill, Geraldine - which came bolstered with the boss himself - the latest offering on True Romance is a quintessential example of makes the label so omni-appreciated. 

Here - Oslo based artist Henrik Villard offers up 4 beautiful grooves, stripped down to the bare minimum: well crafted drums and deftly selected samples all suffused with an irresistible amber glow. 

'I See U' kicks things off with a jubilant, circling sample which is filtered and panned as it fleshes out a crispy House back bone. ‚Breezin - Fall In Love' then follows up with more smiley sampling which is underpinned by a thick, rumbling sub. 

'Love Forever Stands' then sets field recordings and shuffling rim-shots over a cosy kick drum as another sunny sample bleeds into the mix. Sax samples and neat vocal cuts pepper the track in a manner that recalls some of the finest Smallville records before 'While You Are Here' closes things up. 

Script samples, clever arrangement and simple-but-effective loops shine through and bring an exultant collection of floor-fillers to a heart-warming conclusion'.

Blessed Madonna, Pete Tong, Gerd Janson, Ash Lauryn... the list of great DJs playing and loving Sam Ruffillo's very special italian disco music is long. With only 3 EPs on Toy Tonics, he might be the most talked about producer on the Berlin label (with Cody Currie and Coeo). One of his Italian disco songs form his last EP ITALIANISSIMO ("Chiamami Subito“) made it into the high rotation playlist of the biggest Italian pop radio and is still growing in the international club underground.

Now Sam comes with a new EP. And this EP shows his other side. Until now Sam has been known for his Italian organic disco songs (no samples, all instruments played live). But for his new BROOKLYN TAPES EP the Italo-Sicilian DJ, producer and super styler Sam Ruffillo worked with a few American rappers and soul singers to create what a New York critic called „post digital soul house music“. 

Remixes for the EP by some of Sam's fans: Ash Lauryn from Detroit, Eli Escobar from New York and Art Of Tones from France.
