Berlin's Micropacer makes his return to Exploited Club - following releases on Kendal's Ritmo Fatale, Johannes Albert's Frank Music and Cormac's Polari with 3 slices of pure, unadulterated joy. 

'Splash' kicks off, oozing with sass as an irresistible Italo bass struts along with a square edged heel. Rousing strings swell as a giddy tension bubbles towards a hairs-on-the-neck breakdown that pops to rapturous effect. Synths sparkle, while chopped vocals adorn the melody. All the while that bass maintains its swagger until the end. 

'Foreign Affairs' follows up with more early 80s flair. Here, a fervid piano riff takes the limelight as it shifts through heartstring chords, rubbing sweaty shoulders with stabs and a vocoder. Filters dip the piano as it sinks towards another jubilant drop. 

'Schöne Zeit' closes things up with more bright, spicy drums. The Disco kit kicks in all the right places, propelling another gorgeous tapestry of sound built from swirling tones and sunbeam stabs. Another breakdown unfolds with pure peak-time energy, giving way to flurry of serotonin rounding off a pack of reliable, retro bangers aimed directly under the disco ball.

Fresh off the back of the label’s busiest and most acclaimed year yet, Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records kicks off 2024 with the launch of a new EP series, titled Club Gudu.

A home for dance singles aimed squarely at the club, Club Gudu is all about instinct and not overthinking – offering the label’s roster and extended family an outlet for their dancefloor impulses, indulges and when it suits them, experiments.

Club Gudu 001 comes from Dukwa, the Florence-based artist who has proved a favourite with Solomun, Ben UFO, Pete Tong, Seth Troxler and naturally, Peggy herself. It marks his third appearance on Gudu following 2022’s Matter of Time EP and a contribution to 2023’s Gudu & Friends compilation, and showcases him at his stripped-down, precision-tooled best.

In Dukwa’s words: “how a photographer captures memories in photos, I do the same with music. I recorded these tracks during a very strange period of my life, full of changes. I was trying to ‘Take Me Away’ from a ‘Digital Forest’ I had fallen into, unable to clearly see what was happening around me. Then I found ‘The Hedge’, I crossed it, and I realized it was just my life that once again proved to me that I am stronger than I think. Life is wonderful.”

Next up in True Romance is Street Player with a brilliantly radiant recording that harpoons right to the core of hay-day French Filter House. All of the key ingredients are present and are sounding as fresh as ever; swirling synths, balmy guitar samples and a gorgeously honeyed vocal are all set in motion by a ripe, punchy rhythm section.

The power is in the simplicity as progress rolls into a filtered, string- licked breakdown that allows space for the vocals to bloom in full colour. The full-bodied kick and that hypnotic, truncated bass line slap back in. At this point it's easy to picture a rapturous, sun-soaked dance floor and it's easy to hear that there's no doubt - this one's a dead cert!

Kicking off the EP with hypnotic house grooves, ‘Smile Right Back’ is here to set the mood for intimate gatherings in dimly lit basement spaces. Following up, ‘Miss It All’ evokes images of

The inspiring run of debutants on Watergate Records continues, as Ede & Deckert step up to the plate. 
 
The pair are a newly minted production partnership, having dropped a strong collaborative single ‘Immer’ on Running Back last September, featuring vocalist ‘Sargland’ that blurred the lines between indie dance and post punk. 
 
Outside of this, Deckert has dropped heat on Connected and Stil Vor Talent, and is one half of live electronic act Deorbiting, while the emerging Ede has credits on Innervisions and Correspondent to his name. 
 
When paired together, their work hits different. ‘Hold This Down’ is an exhilarating tune of the highest order, as a pacey nu-disco is paired with a sped up vocal hook to create a very fun, pop-leaning gem. Robert Johnson resident Maruwa takes the original to another level, upping the tempos and intensity for a slamming techno re-rub. ‘Buri Buri’ is a cutting-edge genre-hopper mixing up influences from European house and UK bass with inspiring freshness.

Toy Tonics Jam Hits is a new format where Toy Tonics puts together some of the most successful tracks played at the Toy Tonics Jam parties. These parties are taking place every weekend around Europe, in some of the best clubs and at Toy Tonics regular jam places like Panorama Bar Berlin, Phonox London or Alacazar in Rome. Toy Tonics is doing these parties 2-4 times every weekend. It's a big thing now. 

This second part features COEO with their evergreen song „Native Riddim“. This song is almost a club classic. Played by everybody from Moodymann to Gerd Janon, Peggy Gou to Dan Shake. The extended version has 8 million plays on Spotify already.

A full on rap track with American vocals based on Sam’s disco beat. Sounds like a West Coast rap anthem from the 1990ies. The remix by Art of Tones has been a favorite of people around the globe. 

This Toy Tonics compilation also includes a classic track by Munk. The former project of Toy Tonics boss Kapote. Misterio is a funk house banger with Brazilian vocals. The Severino Horse Meat Disco remix always works amazing on DJ sets.
