Icelandic scene veteran ILO steps up to the True Romance plate and cooks up a three-part EP. Known for his remixes for reputed acts such as Sigur Rós, múm and GusGus, ILO harbors a release catalog dating almost two decades, with productions on labels such as Rebirth, Synthadelia Records, Kompakt and Thule Record ́s legendary offshoot 66 Degrees Records dating back to 2001.
Drafted alongside Belle and Sebastian keyboardist Chris Geddes, Restart doesn’t adhere to electronic music conventions, as it blends strains of deep house, ambient, minimal and organic notes alongside glitched vocal loops. Named initially after the troublesome computer operation the artists had to repeat during production, Restart part 2 has taken on the meaning of existential renewal, and explores the theme with its wandering groove and US singer Moji Abiola’s lush vocals. Inspired by people of Berlin after one of the artist’s gigs there, Restart Part #3 travels through dubby basslines and deep house pads that swirl between easygoing breakbeats.
