Perpetual Universe are one of Budapest's best kept techno secrets. Belocca first met them as their teacher in a DJ School a few years ago and immediately caught his attention. Over the last couple of years their progress in making music was also very impressive, so the time was right for their single debut on the Mainground. "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" is all about their journey to reach the top. This infectious tune has a dark yet funky mid-tempo BPM and slowly builds with almost industrial D&B like sound scapes. Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint heads into 2024 in the same vein as it ended 2023, with an unrelenting flow of top-quality releases, the next from Wehbba and label boss, Victor Ruiz. After their infamous b2b at Warehouse Project in December 2022, it was maybe a sign of things to come, and after not collaborating for almost 10 years, the duo found time in Sao Paulo, resulting in their next release ‘Stand’.
The title cut ‘Stand’ was made during lockdown, “It felt fast at the time, but then techno had a surge in faster bpm’s being played and released, so when I came back to the track 4 years later, it almost feels slow” says Wehbba. “I sent the track to Victor, and he added some drums and vocals that were perfect, but it wasn't until we played it out, that we realised what was missing”. Laced with enveloping acid and modulating analogue elements from early on, its ebb and flow of gripping peaks and troughs filled with expansive soundscapes, hooking vocals and riveting crescendos are the perfect precursors to its several gritty, sawing synth lead. “Now we are both in Lisbon, we got into the studio again and worked out the finer details and completed the track” adds Wehbba.
‘Silo’ completes the release with an appropriate amount of ‘boom’ throughout. Thumping kicks and subtle percussive drive lead the way along hollowed-out sub-bass and melancholic arps that expand further into the mix, giving rise to sharply rising synth lines and pulsating bass stabs. A progressively climbing roller with endless energy and loads of off-beat shuffle throughout, it perfectly caps off an impressive release.

Built for peak-time play, the track's structure is loaded with a fierce hoover sound that builds up with intensity, while acid synth lines take it to soaring heights. Catchy vocal hooks and relentless rhythm create an infectious groove, inviting clubbers to lose themselves in the beat.

Pain is a powerful release that showcases both Genghis and Atabey's skill for crafting intricate, club-ready sounds with depth and dark allure. This EP will resonate with techno enthusiasts, offering both cerebral engagement and undeniable dance floor appeal.
