The time has finally come to have Kwartz in this house again and we couldn’t be more satisfied with the quality of the work he has delivered. It is clear that his new residency at the best techno club on the planet, Berghain, has helped his inspiration multiply exponentially and this is definitely reflected in this brand new work that leaves us wanting more.

Four slices of techno with all the letters, which define exactly what the genre should be without seasonal additives, dynamic electronic dance music, without an expiration date, which could be signed thirty years ago or in the distant future.

Mario does not entertain himself with extreme speeds, nor with predictable developments, nor with pre-cooked sounds. His approach to musical creation is slow and artisanal, meditating and maturing each of the ingredients he uses, without fear of being left out of the media radar.

This entire procedure is reflected in the excellent result, The Golden Hour is a perfect example of everything said above. Strong and firm rhythms, constantly evolving arrangements, elaborate sound design and a firm dance attitude.

Enter The Zone turns the rhythm towards broken bass drums, slightly presses the accelerator and introduces disturbing atmospheres combined with organic percussion details in a masterful way. A true catalyst for expert mixers.

On side B, Under Control once again breaks tradition with a broken, hypnotic and continuous rhythm, a first-rate brain driller for the club's peak moments.

The EP ends with Animal Instinct, which does not lower the intensity one bit, adding an overwhelming rhythm with dynamic percussive details, with no room for rest, perfect for the dancers to travel to unknown dimensions.

In this next installment of Token, Brussels ’ own Border One steps in to showcase ‘ Echoes from the Abyss ’, another swinging, modular - driven project destined for controlled sound systems. In these four tracks, the seasoned producer does what he knows best: engaging the dancefloor through his signature sound design and use of space.

‘ Echoes from the Abyss ’ the track, like the EP, is a collection of sound associations that a re synonymous with Border One ’ s sound. Resonant and cerebral yet bouncy and full of groove, the A1 presents a shimmering veil of synthwork that gives off a truly hypnotic effect. The follow up is much more sequence - based, focusing on the elements ’ interact ions. The producer plays along freely with his drum machine, responding to a classically loopy and dissonant main synth that insists its way from beginning to end. Tension is everything, especially when met with a sustained chord in the second half, turnin g the record into a weapon of suspense. ‘ Celestial Observer ’ comes back straight and center with a focused tone and a progressive arrangement. With a thick low end and shrill highs, Border One flicks through percussion patterns and filter sweeps to make an intense, at times close eyed dancefloor experience. Ducking back into obscurity for the last track, ‘ Escaping the Void ’ takes on a more minimally produced style that breathes a bit after its previous, denser productions. Concluding with a question mark is always very appropriate, and here we ’ re faced with a record caught between ethereal soundscapes and tense implications. With ‘ Escaping the Void ’, Border One closes with his latest contribution to Token with class as always, appealing to genre veterans and newcomers alike

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

In early 2011, he started the project Truncate to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is still no slowing down for David. He continues to shape an evolving sound and to champion the Los Angeles underground.
