‘Got to work ya ass off to show you got flavour’ - these words ring true for the hard-working crew behind the seventh instalment on WKRTRX. In addition to the original by Truncate, ‘Work Ya Ass’ also hosts a powerful edit from legendary techno lynchpin Ben Sims, as well as an electro remix from two exciting new names in the scene, Manao and Elektor.

Truncate’s ‘Work Ya Ass’ establishes itself with robust drums and an earworm vocal sample, while swinging rhythmical synths shoot through the track throughout. Sims, no stranger to finding the funk in machines, breaks out the filters, stomping kick/clap combos and piercing stabs to create a raucous version while Venezuelan artists Manao and Elektor flip the track into a bass-driven electro weapon.

I don't really have a back story ,I've always had this thing for music and the process of crafting particular sounds .

It started out as just listening to different genres of music ,to being invested in all the sounds I was able to hear ,it was only in 2020 where I went to my first  rave (unaware of what music will be played)
I was instantly taken by how the crowd was reacting to the bangers being played and how the sounds were taking me on this trip , the clap on reverb being my absolute favorite might I add.

I then took it apon myself to research Techno music how and  where it all began ,it was from this moment I felI in love with the sound of the 90s the likes of Jeff Mills , Richie Hawtin , The Advent , Joey Beltram , Luke Slater and so many more are a major influence of my sound although you won't really hear it until you hear it:) the loopy yet never dull sound pushed me to start crafting my own unique style of a more agrressive loops with some 
tribal elements and your classic 909 percs and cymbals .

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

In early 2011, he started the project Truncate to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is still no slowing down for David. He continues to shape an evolving sound and to champion the Los Angeles underground.
