For the 17th release on Burek, the imprint is giving new life to KiNK's track 'Leko' by having the illustrious producer present a rework while also enlisting Session Victim to deliver a new take on the classic anthem.

Here Mixmag showcases Session Victim's beautifully subdued take on 'Leko', enriching the delicate melody with intricate percussive elements. It's a track that fits nicely at any moment during a DJ set, from the early morning afters to peak time bliss. The Session Victim duo are known for their versatility and here they don't dissappoint.

John “Cyclonix” Wilcox is the original raver, the sort of person who knows the roots of his music inside out. He can craft an electronic music sculpture that echoes both the classic dance sound of the UK (bass heavy, chord based, break sampling and crisp), and the purest Chicago and Detroit house and techno influences. Some of the highlights on his career include releasing on cult labels like Tusk Wax, Smuggler’s Inn, Bristol’s Boogie Café and Phuture Shock Musik or contemporary dance floor soul staple Broadcite among other highly recommended projects.

“Efeito Borboleta” is his take on the Percebes sound and it features three incredible originals and a home-made remix by girl of the moment Sheri Vari.

It kicks off with “Butterfly Effect”: a deep stomper that could well have been released on Underground Quality or Sistrum. It is space and emotion, bubbling with jungle breaks and 909 power, channeled through the medium of deep, touching house music.

“Gift of a Patient Soul” is a slower burner, a crunchy jazzy mid-tempo acid funker - perfect to get that foot tap on. The remix by Sheri Vari flips it into a psychedelic deep trip, tapping into that odd parallel world where Rick Wade did a track with Maurice Fulton.

“Warm as Hoth” closes the EP. A funky live bass is intertwined by dreamy chords and chaotic melodies, made of stuttering vocal samples. The kind of thing you’d expect if Todd Edwards did a track with Marc Mac: classic UK garage with a jazz-funk vibe and a Detroit Techno feel. Hard to define, but very easy to listen to and play out.

The element of surprise sparks the imagination as Afterlife defy everyday expectation by virtue of Resistance. Or to put into Steve Miller’s own words: Resistance to any person or thing that in any way degrades the natural experience of human life on this planet is a necessary balancing force at this point in our evolution.

This moment’s decay is bound up with a longing for a better tomorrow. The impulse of that feeling beats throughout the heart of each track with the music proposing a revolution in culture: freedom to think for yourself. That defining, searing intensity is then hardwired directly into the soul of the title track Resistance, its reference to the fractured dream of Detroit alongside the percussive punctuation of Afterlife’s Balearic notation infuse the music with the spirit of meaning, speaking in wordless motion. Dancing to the tune of fierce percussion amid swirls of atmospheric intensity, plus the grainy resolution of bass, Steve’s brilliant series of EP’s are now elevated into another realm of possibility by defiantly exercising a resistant return to the dancefloor.

Antifearance seeks to reverse the climate of fear charged by a barrage of roaring synthesizers primed and set to stun. It’s excitable escapade in demanding rhythms roll out across the floor reaching a tantalising, uncompromising conclusion igniting a playfully subversive Afterlife in the process (while remembering the provocative echo of Patrick Cowley).

A most welcome addition on this release are the two remixes of Resistance featuring Deep House evangelists, Hardway Bros. Inspired by the originals escape into subterranean adventure the motor city is again alluded to by the brush of timeless basslines and drum machines - their use of the words Transmat Dub speaks volumes. The results are needless to say inspired and inspiring…

His ‘P-Connection’ is a stunning 5 track EP which displays the great talent of the Colombian DJ and Producer, also known for being the co-founder of Nomada Records.
The record is laced with musicality since the very beginning with the intro N21 and the second track ‘It’s All About U’ in which Ivan shows a great talent in picking and manipulating vocal samples, creating a ripetitive but never boring, compulsive groove, while the strings along with the smooth synth grooves make it a classy yet solid beat.
Moving on to ‘It's Gone (Get Over It)’ the artist increases the pace with a proper dancefloor hit driven by evolving chords, a sturdy rhythm section and again some masterly chosen samples, while ‘P-Connection’ slows the tempo down offering another perspective but keeping intact the sound principles that drive the record. The closing track called Tribute includes many sampled quotes from some great musicians and producers and evolves into a hip-hop beat ending the EP in style; Joint4Nine wanted to show appreciation to some amazing artists who inspired him to create this record.
We’re glad to welcome another talented artist like Ivan to our family.
P-Connection EP will be out on the 21st of December 2020, in digital version.
