Yuzo Iwata aka Fabio, 50% Cubano, 50% Japanese, Karate blackbelt and DJ/producer, originally from the Iwata Juku Dojo in Japan and now based in Berlin, Yuzo shares with us his latest fascinations from dancefloor land. A well seasoned Dj, a man in the scene for many years and true to his roots. A vinyl dj producing a vinyl masterclass that is based from a deep analogue house upbringing with a hat tip to the U.S.
This mix is a testament to his influences and the plight of these genre's being less recognised within contemporary Eora gigs.

Words from the man himself:

"The mix was recorded during a somewhat impromptu Saturday session at home - I felt it turned out pretty well so why not share. Comprising of records I’ve collected over the past 15 years, with a theme of deep tones, sometimes euphoric, often melancholy, and with a touch of hope. 

Mixing records acts as a gauge for my mental state. When I’m feeling centred and calm, the process flows, the records pick themselves and emotions run high - it’s a beautiful thing. The more tactile nature of vinyl is expressed as a feeling, bypassing my overthinking brain. Funnily enough the opposite can be said when I’m feeling stressed!

I hope you enjoy this journey. I understand electronic music as a form of nonverbal communication. The artist’s conscious state digitised for others to absorb. They express feelings and states of being that cannot be adequately described by our limited linguistics. As I piece together these records I’m doing so as a patchwork of my own experience at the time of recording and hopefully it moves you as it moved me."

Danceportal 28 - Tom Witheridge

Finn Johannsen is a bit of an unsung hero – not one to seek the limelight or stardom he has given more to the wlectronic music community than most having worked in numerous capacities over many years. Finn has worn many hats – a journalist, a promoter, a label boss, a DJ and beyond. His taste is ridiculously good and you’d be hard pushed to find someone who knows as much about the lineage and roots of dance music as he does.

At present he works behind the scenes at the infamous Paloma in Berlin.

It is also here that he has become a figurehead behind the stellar club night Power House which has helped breathe life into the fundamentals and roots of House music in the city at its core.

Few DJ’s are as technically able as Finn, who regularly plays mammoth extended vinyl sets which span hours at a time.

This mix is honestly long overdue, we thought we’d asked him before but we hadn’t. Thankfully it’s better than even we could have imagined.

For my second @nts_live show of the year I wanted to channel the gorgeous spring we have been having here in England. I played new Music by Yu Su, Carla Del Forno, Gladkazuka on Cómeme, Free Love (from their amazing new album Luxury Hits) Theus Mago on Optimo Music and Ghosts Of Dance on Dark Entries alongside some of my favourite recent finds and some old favourites. 

In the second hour of the show, I welcomed Regional Treasure™ @Geoffreylarue all the way from Hotmotor City on to the show to present a "selectioné of Italian Language Disco Pop". After first being charmed and then obsessed with https://soundcloud.com/geoffreylarue/morning-campers and having seen him dj a few times since I was most pleased to have him come and share some of his favourite vinyldisks with us. I highly suggest earmarking this for any european roadtrips along the coast you have coming up or situations that involve dancing under the stars. In his own words
