Luxus Varta comes to Specimen Records with Magnetic EP, dropping six new tracks of intelligent and intricate electro.

With a discography spanning respected labels Solar One Music, Brokntoys, Trust, Klakson, and his own imprint, In Abstracto, Luxus Varta has solidified his reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in the electro scene. This release demonstrates further his knack for constructing complex, evocative tracks that work for the deep and dark dancefloor moments.

The EP opens with the deep, brooding bass of title track, Magnetic, setting a moody and immersive tone. It then shifts into the off-kilter machine funk of Broken Tube, before leading into the sharp electro beats of Gelatin 55. Colour Splitter continues the journey on the EP with a dense, atmospheric composition rich in sound design, followed by Post-Mortem Meeting which is another perfect example of Luxus Varta’s melancholic overtones. The release closes out with Linoleum, dense with layered synth work and driven by shuffling beats.

Colombian imprint Furatena return with 'AX-V1', a razor-sharp various artists dispatch aimed straight at the post-industrial underbelly of the club...Our pick lands on /DL/MS/’s ‘Regressive Behaviour’, a piece of sonic brinkmanship clocking in at a neurotic 146 BPM. The track kicks off like an alarm from another planet, a strobe-lit march of arpeggiated distress signals and saturated low-end mechanics. FX-smeared synths squeal through the mix like panic-stricken comms in deep space, while its haunted textures hang like ozone in a malfunctioning cryochamber.

/DL/MS/ – Regressive Behaviour [Furatena]

Me and Ben thought it would be fun to play a long DJ set together at Globus, the upstairs floor at Tresor in Berlin. 
We last played together (as Frequency 7) in May 2013. This time we played a ‘back to back’ DJ set, I’m pretty sure playing 2 tracks each for the whole six and a half hour set. All we had in mind beforehand was to start with some Dub and ‘see where it goes’. 

It was a lot of fun so we wanted to share the recording with you.

A lot has happened since our last pre-pandemic episode. While streaming DJ sets may have lost some momentum, we believe there's still a space for timeless, distinctive mixes from artists we respect — whether they're long-time players or emerging talents from our circle. So now feels like the right time to relaunch the Pomcast.

Kicking things off is our dear colleague and friend, Chicago’s own m50.

For those familiar, m50 is synonymous with high-quality, deeply personal, and immersive electronic sets. His work through the weekly "etc radio" broadcasts, his productions as Area (his debut album dropped on François K’s Wave Music in 2012), and his vinyl-only label Kimochi all showcase a unique and nuanced musical voice.

The mastermind behind Basic Channel, Hard Wax and Rhythm & Sound doesn't do mixes. For RA.1000, he made an exception.

Trace Mark Ernestus's path, and you trace the evolution of electronic sound itself. The timeline of contemporary Berlin is unimaginable without him. At first, that meant Hard Wax, the crucial hub that shaped the early era of the city's techno revolution. Carl Craig once said it plainly: "Mark was ground zero."

From there, Ernestus never stopped. There's the birth of dub techno and the near-flawless catalogue that followed through Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound. There's his immersion in Senegalese mbalax with Ndagga Rhythm Force. Lately, that means Open Ground the Wuppertal bunker that's letting people hear music as never before.

As part three of RA.1000, Ernestus has kindly supplied his first studio DJ mix. As you might expect, it's technically immaculate, but more than that, it feels like a substantial and generous conduit to one of the world's most vital genres.

Amapiano remains underexplored in music media. Publications like our own are still learning to keep pace with the South African sound's global pull, animating millions across the globe. 

You'll hear the range and richness of the genre across the near two-hour mix, from the gothic, percussive stomp of Caltetonic's "Bambela"  to the devotional glow of GemValleyMusiq's "Something Spiritual."

Through all of this, Ernestus has remained understated. He lets the music speak for him, with a quiet honesty that lies in decades of opening doors—creating the conditions for new sounds and scenes to flourish and carry the culture forward.

/DL/MS/ is the new project of Dan Lodig and Martin Sovinz, who have joined forces for a three-track debut of jacking analogue techno that brings both artists' fortes to the table. Dan Lodig contributes the rhythmics and staggering arpeggios. Martin Sovinz complements this with the eerie keys and masterful effect use that show off his impressive skills of putting his analogue gear park to work.
Far from being a one-off project, /DL/MS/ have been working on their music over the past months, and further releases on Pomelo, TRUST, and more are on the horizon.

Lok44 and Dibek are /DL/MS/, dropping a malicious four-tracker as their joint TRUST debut. The haze hangs heavy as /DL/MS/ leave straight techno by the wayside, drilling deep underground into unexplored acid break deposits. 'Rogue Intent' shatters tectonic plates with grinding breaks, fierce analogue instrumentation, and the fumes oozing from their boreholes are going to set your head spinning.
