Established in 1978 by Truus de Groot in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Plus Instruments' existence spans over the last 3 decades.  Starting by tinkering with toy and electronic instruments in her flat - amidst the explosion of Punk Rock. Even though Truus was very active in that genre and “New Wave” as well, the more experimental side gradually took over and the concept of Plus Instruments was born.  Various other side projects are listed here.

Rachel (A Door) has a hole in her spinal cord and much of her visual art work is automatic expressionist figure work which she believes is her body attempting to correct her proprioception and spinal alignment.

Her music sounds like her paintings look ; chaotic, dark, distorted and ethereal, with an overall sense of loss. These health issues affect her ability to play guitar as it caused motor function issues in her hand. It was during the Covid pandemic that she turn to making visual art and is now releasing music recorded prior to, and during, the pandemic under the name A Door.

ret is interested in music and sound, looking for new ways to think about the two. He djs (as ret and his alter-ego Rıza); co-hosted radio shows (Bankpank, means, Madem Evdeyiz and A.I.D.); reads, writes and edits texts on sound; works as a music director (karga and kargART); co-organizes independent festivals (multiRAID, parAID, bankparnaval, Açıkppqqmm); compiles music (Noisy Ground, In Sync); participates in collectives (A.I.D., ppqqmm, Açık Alan) and sometimes steps away from the underground to manage a major string orchestra from Istanbul (Istanbul Strings). When djing, he is after mixing tracks and samples off context to accompany everyday politics, in search of an expression of meaning beyond sound.
