BRETT is a new label celebrating the co-dependent scenes of techno and contemporary art. 

A sub label of Inland’s Counterchange imprint, each edition will feature music selected by Ed Davenport (Inland / Counterchange), paired with cover art curated by Nils Petersen (Flipping The Coin). 

BRETT is dedicated to the spirit of Berlin’s early club scene, where cross-pollination and spirited discourse between musicians and visual artists etched the blueprints for a new techno-culture.

001 finds co-creator and long-time Berlin ex-pat Inland at the helm, delivering four surging, up-tempo club tools, plus 2 brainwave-activating noise experiments. Celebrated Irish-born artist Mariechen Danz provides a photograph of her visionary sculpture, ‘Statue for Gesticulation’, for the cover artwork. 

The towering super-human structure bears a multitude of nurturing hand gestures suggesting support, comfort and togetherness. Built from roughly textured grey concrete and resembling a technoid, monolithic bunker or industrial space in itself, the loving, humanist symbols of peaceful action mirror the culture of inclusion, love and acceptance practiced on the dance floor.

Liane 

Recently relocated to Amsterdam, Liane already had a debut set at De School. She was born in Jerusalem where she explored her sound and quickly positioned as a resident in the underground club Pergamon, playing among the best of the best.
Shortly after, she was a regular of Tel Aviv’s techno scene and started building momentum all over Europe. For the past year, she is hosting and curating a monthly show at RRFM called Roaming Edges, played her debut set in Tbilisi, and performed in clubs and raves around Amsterdam and Tel Aviv.

Her mixes are constructed by layers of deep, dark, and industrial techno characterized by crushed kicks that create a distorted fog of noisy textures with an experimental edge. She aims to develop an immersive and dynamic experience that delves into an emotional depth, while constantly keeping a rolling flow that shatters and reforms. Episode 245 of the series is no different in building an evolved and layered soundscape representative of the sound she plays in clubs: A continuous texturised tension and flow

Bio
lola:de is a dj and coder from London. Some may recognise her from the infamous ‘dances at the rave’ video that provided some much needed entertainment to the dance community during the 2020 lockdown (you had to be there), while others may be more familiar with her from dj sets at various London venues such as Elektrowerkz, The Glove That Fits, Dalston Superstore and radio stations such as Voices, NetilRadio, komrad and bloop (where she is now a resident). 

Ahead of her next show at Risen festival this April, Lola has prepared a special mix for TechnoFist's final podcast that reflects her whimsical personality and diverse taste. Featuring artists such as Nubian Mindz, Shinedoe, Steve Rachmad, Cinthie, and Alarico, expect an eclectic blend of soulful, funky and hard, tooly beats.

Pipiltzintzintli EP is designed as a concept-opus around the notion of psychedelia in electronic music. It is conceived exclusively using sounds from hardware synthesizers and modular systems.

 The repetitive motifs are chosen here for their organic and cerebral aspect; they act physically on the listener, the intention being to seek out sounds that act like active principles, like psychotrops. The idea is also to maintain a rather minimalist approach, with reduced use of percussive and/or melodic elements. Multilayering is used here to access a deeper sonic dimension, to tap into the inner self, a mental image like an imaginary, unconscious landscape. 

There's also an acidic dimension to the album, with references to a whole section of the history of repetitive electronic music: Warp's pre-2000s period with LFO and the distinctive sound of early Plastikman are particularly present here. The opus is rounded off by the unique touch of producer friends Gëinst, Inerit and Accou, who all revisit a track of their choice in their own way.
