On TENTEN01, Dutch up-and-comer Mance filters old-school hard house through the feet-shaking power of speed garage. Classic dance sounds pass through the rip-roaring woodblock breakbeat of “Left, Right, Hold On Tight” and reggae-speedy g mashup of “Much Better”, only now masked in a nocturnal and restless atmosphere.

Mance makes use of every minute of the EP, letting each drop snowball into the next and developing new levels of energy. Take “Ethereal Pulses”, which switches up in the second half to adding airborne tubular synths that hint at Eurodance glory. The “Dred Mix” of that track takes the bopping and weaving organ pattern of the original and spirals it down a dark tunnel before slamming you with a speed garage twist. Keep it rolling, and this EP will never stop rewarding you.

Amsterdam’s Milion bends genre to his whim like young Aang, and for the Digital-Only Series, he summons a slick two-tracker of spacey speed garage and Baile funk-infused UK bass. “LET’S GO B$NG!” sends you orbiting with its gooey Reese bass centre but cymbal crashes ensure you don’t drift too far, slicing through the track while keeping it hypnotic. A funk MC barks around the horror-flick beat of “Ficou Braba”, which is met with low-end ferocity and percussion that’s part favela handclaps, part grimey machine-gun snares. A progressive burner built for DJs pushing beyond the usual formulas.

For ec2a’s Digital-Only Series, Bristol’s bass buccaneers Dual Monitor continue their run of tech-dembow monsters that have the chilling atmosphere and venomous mechanics of a sci-fi horror flick. The sounds on “Rise Up” are techy, gelatinous and they deploy circular hits of atmosphere as coldly as Darth Vader’s breath. But when it wheelspins from a breaks intro to their signature bounce, it’s all systems go. You’ll latch onto the tune of clanging metal from the moment it reaches your ear, right through to the track’s airtight final drop, which squeezes wiping bass into the mix. Wear a gas mask to the dance, but you’ll still succumb to their dark, contagious swing.
