Born in London to Nigerian parents, LyricL's early & enduring musical influences came from home. A drummer/DJ Daddy, who “loved African Jazz, Gospel and High Life, entertained with chest-tap percussion, beatbox and skilfully played his hands as wind instruments, as Mommy dances & sings in her own key of happiness to this very day.”

Wilderness Festival, Southport Weekender, North Sea Jazz, Museums Quartier Austria, StreetFest London, Sabolai Music Festival Ghana and the Toronto Jazz Festival, have embraced her creative works. An eclectic catalogue that spans Hip-Hop, House, Jazz through to Afro & Broken Beat with a soulful edge, stirring grooves enhanced by her lyricism and Spoken word.

Juno Download review: Andy Buchan's third EP in as many months on Hot Gorilla is another sweaty, celebratory treat, though we'd expect little less from one of nu-disco's genuine rising stars. This time round he's not serving up sizzling original productions, but rather two hot-to-trot re-edits that should appeal to all those who like their disco to sound weighty, funky and horn-heavy. He begins with "Don't Do That (J Cas Edit)", an energetic slab of party-heavy disco funk rich in wild sax lines, bumpin' house beats, ceaseless male group vocals and crunchy electric guitar licks, before dipping the tempo a little on the beatdown-goes-psychedelic funk haziness of "Kosmick Funk (Rock Me Baby Edit)". The latter is equally as heavy as its predecessor and arguably twice as hedonistic, despite its lolloping mid-tempo beats.

“The Sound of New York City® is a project born from the idea of its founder back in 2006 to encourage the rediscovery of the Disco Sound, including Soul – Funk – House, while at the same time make use of his extensive vinyl collection, much of which was gathered from underground sources, dating back to 1975.

In December 2009 the initial project was transformed into a live, 24/7 web radio station:
TSoNYC™ The Sound of New York City™ . The station’s programming is based on the history of New York’s clubs like “Paradise Garage” and “The Loft”, with their protagonists Larry Levan and David Mancuso, as well as Detroit and Chicago with “The Warehouse” and “The Gallery”, where Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy spread their style. The TSoNYC sound includes Nu-Disco and Deep House, showcasing DJ contemporaries such as Moodymann, Theo Parrish, LTJ experience, and others who are now contributing to the rediscovery of this immortal music.

The growing interest for this genre of music is being demonstrated as our site last year reached more than 14 thousand visitors, with tremendous audiences tuning not only within the USA and Canada, but also in Germany, Greece, Japan, Russia, France, Poland, England and Italy as well.
