Hailing from a small apartment in Southern Tel Aviv, Reluctant Celebrity started in 2020 as a mix series with the initial intention of evolving into an audio/visual platform starting with releasing original music; Singer-songwriter material, taken into and around the dance floor, channeled through the classic format of single + video. 

Kicking it all off is [RCMTRL001] Luz - Lama Kacha, a question marched on top of a homemade soundscape, written and produced by Harel Luz, an artist living and working in Tel Aviv who obtained a computer by chance, played around with the software on it and started making music intuitively in 2018. It is accompanied by two remixes, one by Rapha (Chateau Royal) and one by Omer (Cocktail d'Amore, Love on the Rocks), a B-side and a video by fellow Sharon Fadida. Mastered by Mule Driver of Confused Machines, the single will be released on Dec. 15, 21

Olivia – Magic Walk

Dalmata Daniel presents the sixth instalment of their DDS split series, manifesting a relentless torrent of raw, bumping beats and electric thunderbolts: Kraków-based Olivia brings her otherworldly sequences and hazy reverberations, while hailing from Tel Aviv, Rapha delivers acidic treatments and sinister, menacing tones of a dark, untold future.

Side A opens up with ’Freak’, where Olivia’s swirling synth arpeggios quickly aim to enchant all listeners, tangling up their brainwaves with several layers of wicked, throbbing beats. Continuing her witching hour, ‘Odejdź’ introduces off-kilter pulses, cries and whispers in a dungeon, where no one can find the exit. Echoes tremble and screams get distorted in the dark, moist and uncanny aisles of these non-Euclidean spaces. Hyperbolic and demonic, hypnotic and manic: ‘Odejdź’ puts ashes in our eyes and takes us to places we never thought were possible in this bleak realm of our world.

Flip the record, drop the needle and let side B commence: Rapha opens up with ‘Aggressive Disorder’, a hip hop-infused marching beat with cosmic howls and blasting basslines. Next up, as a gargantuan machinery of steam-fueled engines, ‘Bomber Jacket’ takes a confident, industrial maneuver at demonstrating nasty, scattered pieces of percussive grit, simmering its way to a textured and refined amalgam of rough and frantic pulsations. Closing the split release, ‘Access Point’ elevates the voyage to outer space: fresh and squelchy electro patterns kick in right away with sweet, rumbling lower frequencies, and while you may enjoy the interstellar ride with stardust in your eyes, don’t forget to watch out for potential alien screams and growls behind you in the cabin; they should come as no surprise if DDS06 is the OST to your personal, gruesome, galactic adventure.

Liège-based Gravitational Effect excels with a dazzling new electro EP to mark the Reposition Record label's third fantastic release, while scene mainstay Radioactive Man offers up one of his signature remixes.

 

Gravitational Effect is a fast-rising new artist who impressed with his first outing on Planet Tapes. It showcased a love of 80s electro boogie and club-ready funk and here the artist pays tribute to electro’s intergalactic appeal whilst adding his own euphoric and mind-bending spin.

 

First up is the high-speed ‘Forbidden Planet' with its coruscated bass, bustling drum patterns and skewed lead synths all set to blow up the dance floor. 'Unknown Frontliner' takes a deeper approach, with mystic chords hovering in the air over a crisp electro beat with rubbery bass reverberating way down low. It's a track full of intrigue, while 'Base Control' is the most hard-edged cut of the EP. The gurgling bass and smeared pads are powered along by a turbo-charged electro rhythm that never lets up.

 

Radioactive Man is an electro kingpin who endlessly explores every niche the genre has to offer. He has a sizeable discography that takes in countless EP’s, LP’s and remixes on the most influential labels, and most recently he has unveiled his own 10” series Sonicus Croniclus on Asking For Trouble. His fantastic remix of 'Base Control' experiments with the original's central synth pattern. He pitches it down alongside more spaced-out production and the result is a mesmeric and psychedelic seven-minute masterpiece.

 

With this EP, Gravitational Effect proves himself adept at sequencing ever-evolving synths, playful melodies finely-programmed drum patterns.

PREMIERE : Reposition - Forbidden Planet

En écho à son article sur le renouveau de la scène new wave allemande publié dans le numéro 150 de Tsugi, notre collaborateur François Brulé a décidé de compiler la musique écoutée tout au long de la rédaction de cet article. En interviewant les nouveaux visages de la Neue Deutsche Welle, il dresse le constat qu'ils partagent tous les mêmes références des années 80-90 : de D.A.F. (photo), à Nitzer Ebb, Grauzone, Ideal ou encore Malaria ! Voici donc une playlist compilant la scène d'hier et celle d'aujourd'hui qui démarre tout en douceur avec le projet teinté pop de Levin Goes Lightly, suivi des balades new wave de Flawless Issues et Edwin Rosen, les jeunes protégés de Luca Gillian de Die Selektion. Le tout rythmé par les titres de MCNZI,  le tube de Joachim Witt et les sonorités expérimentales et post-punk de Malaria et Fehlfarben. Le voyage se finit dans un univers bien plus sombre avec les morceaux d'Inahlt, de Konstantin Unwohl et de Nitzer Ebb, toujours en furie ! Bonne écoute !

La Neue Deutsche Welle vue par François Brulé

Whilst festivals and open airs blossom all around Berlin and the rest of Europe, we invite our friend Adam The Observer to take over this month's episode of our podcast series.

Adam The Observer is an independent artist and DJ with roots in Western Poland.

Throughout the years, he was involved in shaping the cultural programme and multidisciplinary initiatives in Amsterdam, Berlin, and his motherland - Poland. Since 2018, as a selector, he has been a guest of various European radio shows and venues. 

As a producer, he got featured on ‚Cut the Wire' compilation organised by the @Oramics collective. He focuses on extensive research with the intention to combine various inspirations into a multi-themed narrative.

For Loser Records he recorded this amazing, almost 90 minute long mix, which feels excitingly different and serves a mix of different genres apart from the four to the floor uniformity you might be used to. We say thank you to Adam and hope you enjoy the mix as much as we do!

Krishna Goineau is well known for his starring role in ‘Los Niños del Parque’ with Liaisons Dangereuses and in other projects such as Velodrome and Xeroox. Through one of his friends we have been lucky enough to receive a hard disk on which there are a variety of unreleased tracks by Krishna Goineau with MCL (Micro Cheap League) recorded in the year 85-86. Krishna lived in Barcelona at that time and was involved in different groups while traveling through Germany and Belgium to create new projects. After dissolving Liaisons Dangereuses in 1983 Krishna started a new project with MCL where you can identify the essence and influences that he had at that time, touches of EBM and metal synthesizers with vocals in Spanish as in the track ” No Information ” These tracks are preserved in excellent quality in which Alden Tyrell has done the mastering on vinyl and digital. Having something like this is like finding a treasure in the middle of a secret island. To finalize the release we have edits from Silent Servant, Curses, Esprit Divers. Deckard & Lucient.
