1) T'es qui mec ?
Salut je m’appelle André aka Schnautzi. Je viens de Genève mais j’habite depuis un peu moins de 5 ans à Lyon. Je suis dj, je gère mon label « Argent Sale », je bosse pour le label de dub « Dubquake Records » (le label de O.B.F Sound System) et j’ai aussi une émission sur Nova Lyon, « La Sélection ».

2) Des projets en cours ? (EP, label…)
On vient de sortir le 17 janvier sur Argent Sale deux tracks techno de Submarine FM, producteur lyonnais. Dans « La Sélection », j’invite un(e) passionné(e) de musique à venir digger une quinzaine de titres dans les 100’000 vinyles de la Bibliothèque de Lyon. L’émission est diffusée tous les premiers dimanches du mois à 20h. Quelques dates de dj à venir et je suis résident une fois par mois dans le fumoir du bar Baston.

3) Quelles sont tes influences dans la région (artistes, label, asso…) ?
J’ai toujours adoré les dj sets de Flore, et ce depuis ses débuts quand elle faisait de la drum and bass. Elle a un enthousiasme contagieux et une sélection toujours imparable. 
J’aime aussi beaucoup Hard Fist et leur vibe lente, langoureuse et résolument dancefloor. Mais aussi le travail de Bruno Patchworks et des artistes qui gravitent autour de lui (Pat Kalla, Freakistan, Voilàa, David Walters etc…). AH, le dernier live de J-Zbel pour Boiler Room est DINGUE! Et j’ai découvert récemment Balladur et ils sont aussi excellents. Vaudou Game est un groupe incroyable j’aimerais bien les voir en concert. 
En fait, y’a tellement de bons artistes, dj’s, musiciens à Lyon! Je suis trop content d’avoir bougé dans cette ville.  

4) Un lieu à recommander aux chineurs locaux en quête de bon son/de bonnes soirées ?
Ben BASTON, évidemment! Y’a des perfos, des dj’s, des live, des expos, des bingos et même des initiations au Shibari. En plus, les bar(wo)mans sont troooop sympas. Sinon pour la suite de la soirée, j’ai un petit coup de coeur pour l’Ambuscade, salle de concert / club associatif dans les pentes (rue Imbert Colomès). On y entend souvent du reggae ou du dancehall. Je kiffe cette ambiance improbable où des gens de tous les horizons se rencontrent et font la fête ensemble. C’est bien underground, l’entrée est gratos et les consos pas chères. Sinon pour les trucs plus technos / house & co, je ne vais pas être très original: Le Sucre et le Transbo car ils ont les meilleurs sounds systems!

5) Comment la scène locale pourrait s'améliorer selon toi ?
J’adorerais pouvoir contribuer à promouvoir la scène en sortant plus de morceaux de productrices (teurs) de la région sur mon label. On est ouverts à tous les styles de musiques « club ». Donc n’hésitez pas à envoyer vos démos, je réponds à tout le monde! -> andre@argentsale.biz

Also a supremely technically gifted sound technician, Alex creates music for film and television and could never be accused of lacking excitement. Amplifying his skills on every level, he retains the essence of emotional communication that makes his work so engaging.

“People really feel like they’ve got an emotional connection to it,” he says. “I feel like every track that I write has to resonate with me on an emotional level. If I’m not connecting with it and it’s not evoking some kind of feeling in me then why should I expect the listener to feel that too? As we’re all made of the same kind of stuff as it’s resonating with me then hopefully it’s going resonate with other people who are listening to it as well.”

On Nov.12th, Alex piloted a cataclysm of new abrasive sounds with his EP ‘Tephra’, released on Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint. 

The ideas emerged from two months in the rugged, black volcanic surroundings of the Canary Islands, Spain. Banks armed himself with a restricted set of equipment taken from his studio in Brighton and set about focusing on the core of his musical expression.

The 5 track EP draws an abrasive array of intertwined melodic structures - one that could only be formed by an adept sound designers’ skillset. The title track and single ‘Tephra’, is woundingly brash, jagged and skull reverberating, it paints a mental landscape appropriate to where the tracks were born, in the context of a melodic hook line.

Following on from his second studio album, Beneath the Surface which was released on Mesh in 2019. Banks’ reimagines a different story, one of which was sculpted by his time witnessing unearthly volcanic landscapes. The change in scenery he recalls brought a welcomed ‘change of mindset’ than the earlier intense period of locking himself away in his Brighton studio with intermittent bursts of time spent by the coast to foster creative thought. It brought a different intensity to Banks’ sound, one that impressively finds a line between home listening and club-focussed dance-floor bangers.

“Any words I can provide to say how large this release is are a weak reflection of listening to the music. The first time I heard the tracks the energy was just oozing out of them into my torso, and that hook line in Tephra, it's something. It's so hard to make a melodic structure like that which is so simple and catchy while also being engaging after so many years of people trying to make simple and catchy hook lines. It's a fine art of big sound Alex is onto throughout, classic references, full human expression, no holding back, it's a beautiful thing to experience with a full frequency response system”.

Getting Deeper Podcast #130 by Alex Banks

As another (rather unusual) year comes to an end, we close off our 2020 Mix Series with a sensational hour-long recording from one of the UK’s finest electronic music producers - Daniel Avery.

Daniel’s mix, however, is far from the ordinary. We'll let him explain in his own words below.

"The act of DJing feels like it exists on another planet at the moment but, unemployment aside, I feel fortunate to have closed my eyes this year,” Avery explains. “I’ve found a real solace in my metal box down by the water, the doors of which seemed to have been locked from the outside. In a good way. It’s all meant that the pile of new music is bigger than ever and, when asked to make a mix for my favourite dance emporium Phonica, I had the opportunity to do something different. So, to round off the slow-motion blur of 2020, here is a mixtape made up of new and exclusive stuff: unheard demos, versions, live jams and studio experiments. Most of it was made for the club.
