Last Spring, @tsunimanmusic had the opportunity to share the booth with @x-wave9 at the Berlin-based party @crudeberlin, an event showcasing fresh talents emerging from a mixture of different scenes and genres, focusing mainly on new and old psytrance. The duo played the dreamiest Goa that night, an obvious sign that they'd be invited to guest on PLASMA at some point.

With a certain talent for venturing where we don’t expect them, the X-Wave duo manipulates trance in all its forms and strives to break down the barriers between genres, like psychedelic explorers searching for new vibrations.
  A podcast series launched by @djsueur & @gtidj at the end of 2018 and broadcast every last Saturday of the month on the web radio DY10, X-Wave has quickly become an unmissable event for lovers of the genre. A catalyser for hybrid sound experiences, through which they share their own vision of dance music, mainly focused on old-school trance.
  In a perfect alchemy between goa, psy, prog & acid, the Nantes-based duo fuses all its textures to create a retro-futuristic universe, with an epically complex and immersive sound design. Next up in our mix series is our co-founder Marius Bø. Marius' musical journey finds its origins nestled amidst the Norwegian forests. It is here, between the trees and rustling leaves, that his sound took root, hosting and playing parties deep in the woods, since the first gatherings back in 2017. From hazy braindance to high-energy vibrations in mist-shrouded forests, balmy shores and dimly-lit basements - with appearances in clubs like Pawnshop, Bassiani and Macadam, to festivals like Monument and Organik - Marius' music takes a gentle yet firm grip on the soul, all with an organic and trippy spirit, resonating diverse settings from intimate club settings to verdant outdoor scenes.

In this episode, Marius takes us on a two-hour trip, connecting the dots of old school psychedelic records mixed with forthcoming and unreleased bits. Expect acid-infused grooves, warm basslines and trippy arpeggios weaving and rising seamlessly, creating a spiralling euphoria that works both the body and mind.

Filip Storsveen returns to the Bassiani Podcast following a first stint as half of Omformer, this time as solo act Oprofessionell. The Oslo-based co-founder of rave entente Uteklubb (and constituent imprint UTE.REC) draws a wealth of inspiration from the aesthetic of 90s trance, a fully packaged set of sounds, images and for many of a generation, memories, that enshrine a moment in electronic music with particular resonance today. Cyclical revivals are just that, but there’s something especially felt in the speed-saturated sound that’s taken over not only his native Norway, but neighbouring nordic lands, an acknowledgement of its homegrown forest-rave culture, something parallel to the speed at which the world seems to be tipping into exponential overdrive. Storsveen and collaborators Mikkel Rev and Alpha Tracks are flying that flag high above the parapet. And as a means of escape, it delivers large on warm and fuzzy nostalgia, a method by which the creative spirits of the past are reborn today just when we need them most. From releases on his co-run label to a string of contagious live sets, Oprofessionell’s ambit is widening and the ethos of nordic rave gains ever more traction. Viennese DJ/Producer Alpha Tracks is best-known as a fleet-footed champion for contemporary neo-trance. Where others to the north of the genre’s beginnings are breathing new life into the musical style, Felix Benedikt holds down the fort in the east, deriving his intrinsic link to its forms from the early millennium record-digging. With releases on imprints like Blue Hour, Ute.Rec., his very own Morbid and newly pressed <AIR WAYS> bristling with scrappy basslines, the shape of his mission is sharp in focus, a revival and reconfiguration of those 90s sounds into something modern and loaded with relevance. Striking parallels with the speed of data in our modern landscape could be made with trance’s newfound acceptance, but for Felix it’s something inherently felt. Logic demands respite, and his palette has changed to suit an equal need for interiority, a slower pace and the psychic realm. Enter Zenaari Mix 017: this latest episode turns down the tempo and strips away the kick of his bellicose basslines for a pure and surrealist patchwork of prophetic sounds. Rapid eye melodies that conjure up a dark side to Alpha Tracks’ moon. Weird and beautiful frequencies from Vienna’s veteran artist.

Zenaari Mix 017 - Alpha Tracks

It’s back to the Norwegian woods with Mikkel Rev for Bassiani Podcast 259. Alongside Oprofessionel he moonlights as Omformer, and co-spearheads the Oslo-based UTE collective, famous for offering mystical forest raves, memorable club nights and their take-home recordings via digital/vinyl outlet UTE.REC (and sub-label Translusid). Trance is the main thrust, but an updated and savvy manifestation of it that’s more than suited to 2025, furnishing its breakneck rhythms with the experimental slant of its IDM and ambient forebears. It’s an elevated approach to a known genre, and perhaps at the bleeding edge of its future potential, keeping sound and woodland birthplace tethered crucial to its mission. As well as a number of EPs out on his homespun label, he’s apt to explore the fringes of his sound and export its singular voice across the map: intelligent trance with a strong emotional charge. This latest instalment keeps that promise with Mikkel on top form, an hour of cathartic beats recorded live at Bassiani: supernatural and stylish fare for sylvan nighttime gatherings.
