Fae Collins, Cassie Augusta Johnnysdottir, Tobias Koch and MODULAW.

For each vocal composition the actors exaggerate and amplify ‘emotion’ over the rhythmic
pronunciation of a single phrase .
Reminiscent of pop accapella stems, reflected and distorted, the heavily processed voices
coalesce into canons, harmonies and dissonances with ASMR qualities.
By constantly repeating the mantra “Actual Feelings” throughout the length of the entire
album, the progressively fragmented language falls prey of semantic satiation,
increasingly warped into abstraction.
what remains is a soundscape of glossolalias as if the coherent facade of performative
behaviour disarms itself, lulling the listener into a comfortable Gestaltzerfall.

We’re starting off the year with an ambient mix that’ll transport you away from present stresses to a much more tranquil place, courtesy of the magnificent Unknown Mobile. The Canadian maestro has a colourful discography, releasing singles through Haŵs and These Things Take Time as well as two self-released EP’s in 2020. In prior years we’ve also heard his beautiful material released through SOBO, Pacific Rhythm and Planet Euphorique. New music from Unknown Mobile arrives this February. This week’s mix features tracks from the likes of David Sylvian, Florian T M Zeisig and Susumu Yokota.

I don't like to say the music I write is about any particular subject because to me music is a deeply personal medium to connect with. However, I was feeling rather sentimental writing this piece and filled with gratitude being able to connect and celebrate with the people I love, albeit largely through a computer screen. 

While interacting digitally is not the most ideal way to connect, it's a privilege I often take for granted.   In a sense I wanted to write something that could be a celebration of celebrations to come, reflecting how I will feel with renewed opportunities to coincide with the people who are special to me in a common space.
