Returning to our dancefloor roots, BODYCLOCK is a natural extension of our DNA - a foray into the late night club sounds that defined who we are. The freshly minted series represents the label’s primary outlet for dancefloor burners and machine soul, shedding light on a new school of producers from around the globe and at the same time paying homage to the pioneers who laid the foundations for us. A celebration of afro-futurism that is ever-present in the consciousness of dance, BODYCLOCK is built for the nocturnal beings and discerning selectors that push this timeless tradition forward.

This first volume brings together five producers across four continents - Teymori from Australia, NYC’s Malik Hendricks, label mainstay Ricky Razu from Belgium, as well as DTW co-founder Kaye and up-and-comer Halal Sol from Singapore. Establishing both facets of the BODYCLOCK sound, Side A features two vocal-led soulful excursions, while the flip brings you three unabashedly jacking cuts to light the floor on fire. This is only the beginning - BODYCLOCK is coming with an onslaught of twelve inches and EPs, distilling our sonic outlook and looking to the future.

After releasing New Zealand composer, drummer and producer Cory Champion’s acclaimed Clear Path Ensemble jazz album at the start of 2020, we’re proud to bookend the project with a new digital EP of remixes of songs off the album by Kush Jones, Christoph El Truento, AceMo, Glenn Astro, Daniel Hayles, and Champion under his Borrowed CS house and techno alias.

Where the Clear Path Ensemble album was a vivid ode to psychedelia, spiritual jazz, planetary rhythms and celestial oddities, these remixes turn his cosmic compositions into suped-up starcraft. Glen Astro and Kush Jones give ‘Jerry’s Funk’ a series of electro, dub techno and footwork re-rubs. Christoph El Truento and Borrowed CS both reimagine ‘Drip’ for the orbital nightclubs of the future. Mongo Skato rebuilds ‘Future Fatigue’ to a pounding pulse, and AceMo takes ‘Panorama Actual Spectral’ to Saturn and back. Rounding things out Daniel Hayles meditates on ‘Inner Space’ through sparse-but-emotive piano figures.

If you’ve already spent some time on the Clear Path Ensemble mothership, hearing how these considerable talents have reframed Champion’s jazz pieces is a real joy. And if not, start here on the dancefloor, before making your way back into the lounge bar later on.

Next up on TUFF TRAX - @jaw-jam gives away another classic-cut-in-the-making to celebrate his epic laser-etched vinyl release earlier in May. The EP marked a milestone for TUFF WAX as we moved into 12" territory for the first time and saw our music being stocked by some of the biggest specialist stores in underground music. This one's on the house though - enjoy!
