This single is the first offering from a collection of Shabads that I have recorded over many years and will be releasing soon as an album.

Shabads are mystical poems from the Sikh scriptures, meant to be sung or recited to connect and merge with the Divine. This particular poem is about respecting the unique power of a woman.   

The masculine and feminine principles are needed together to create life.  Respect for both should be second nature. Yet so often in life and in religious paths, the feminine is seen as less than, and often even evil…  This is sooooooo sad and something we are learning to balance and heal collectively.   

This version of "Bhand Jameeai" is about celebrating the unique qualities of a woman, her power to bring all life into being and nourish creation. No human is alive that did not come through a woman (at least not that I know :)

May you reflect, enjoy and contemplate the full spectrum beauty of the Feminine.  Her sharp bold courage, gentle loving kindness, and everything in between.   Thank you woman, you are so beautiful and divine in every way 🌸🙏🏽🌸

May the feminine in all beings, all faiths, cultures and lands be cherished, respected, protected, listened to, and loved.

Bhand jammee-ai
bhand nimmee-ai
bhand mangan vee-aaho.
Bhanda-ho hovai dos-tee
bhanda-hu cha-lai raahu.
Bhand mu-aa bhand bhaalee-ai
bhand hovai ban- dhaan.
So ki-o man-daa aakhee-ai jit ja-meh raa jaan.
Bhanda- ho hee bhand oop-jai, bhandai baajh na ko-ay.
Naanak bhandai baa-hraa ayko sachaa so-ay.
Naanak bhandai baa-hraa ayko sachaa so-ay.
Jit mukh sadaa salaa hee-ai bhaagaa ratee chaar.
Nanak tay mukh ooj – lay tit sa-chay dar-baar.
 
English Translation

From woman, man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married.

Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come.
When woman dies he seeks another woman, to woman he is bound.

So why call her bad. From her, kings are born?
From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all.

O Nanak, only the Creator is without a woman.
Blessed and beautiful is the mouth that praises the One continually.
O Nanak, those faces shall be radiant in the Court of the Divine.

Medicine Fox is Production Artist, Musician and DJ  Shane Wilson. A proud member of the Choctaw Nation, his music draws inspiration from the ancient shamanic rhythms of human culture.  As a production artist , Medicine Fox began his career as a listener and a supporter in the studio, collaborating on numerous projects, such as Tulku,  Air Ananda, Sacred Ground,the Little Wolf Band and Deciduous and released his own material on several different record labels, including NewEarth, Quantum Digits and UMR.  As a musician, instruments such as guitar, synths, flutes, and an eclectic variety of percussion shakers and drums find their way into the hands of Medicine Fox.   
From years of deep listening and research, Medicine Fox has collected an extensive palette of unique music from all over the world.  Sharing these sonic discoveries as a DJ is a passion and a joy for Medicine Fox, who can be seen at regular gatherings in Vancouver and wherever he is called to around the world, with performances in the lush forests of the great northwest at festivals like Intention, Blessed Coast and OneLove to the great outback of Australia at BurningSeed.  In 2007 Shane received a Grammy Award for his part in the album "Sacred Ground - A Tribute to Mother Earth", the album won the award for "Best Album - Native American Music Category".
