Snuggly, sassy, spacey pop music. Female vocals, heavenly boy-girl harmonies, sparkly ukulele, jangly guitar and a rhythm section of the gods.

The  band  is  led  by  singer/uke player  Karla  Kane,  with  bassist  Khoi  Huynh,  drummer  Charlie  Crabtree,  and  guitarist  KC  Bowman.  Their  sound  defies  pigeonholes  but  has  been  compared  to  Kirsty  MacColl,  XTC,  Belle  and Sebastian,  and  Allo  Darlin’. With  three  full  length  releases under  their  belt,  called  a  “nigh-­‐on-­‐perfect  fusion  of  bubblegum -­‐sweet  tunefulness  and  clever,  subtly  barbed  lyrics”  (Icon  Magazine)  and  “simply  wonderful”  (PopMatters),  The  Corner  Laughers  have  received  international  radio airplay  and  reviews;  had  several songs  in  national  retail  campaigns;  toured  the  UK/Europe;  and  performed  with  artists  including  Mike  Viola,  Three  Minute  Tease,  Adam  Schlesinger  (Fountains  of  Wayne),  and Martin  Newell.

This is an archive of the various demo tapes they made during that time.

Demo 1 (d1) - Recorded in 1983 at Dungeon Studio, Long Compton, Oxfordshire. The band where still finding their way at this stage.

Demo 2 (d2) - Recorded in 1983 at some studio(?) in Bristol. Things were improving but the band were ultimately a little disappointed with their second effort.

Demo 3 (d3) - Recorded in 1984 at Union Studio, Oxford - Bit more like it! The band are beginning to find their identity and were pleased with the results of this recording.

Demo 4 (d4) - Recorded in 1986 at Synchronise Studio in London - The only demo made by mk II. Sounds pretty good but Al and Ken thought they wrote some better songs later on in the band's existence.

All of these songs have been digitally re-mastered from cassette tapes over 30 years old - so the sound is a little variable in places - but it stands up pretty well considering.

Al still thinks they could have been the first of the wave of Oxford Bands to emerge in the late 80's/early 90's (Ride, Radiohead, Supergrass, etc) if the transport links between Oxford and London, afforded by the M40, had been fully up and running a bit earlier - but then he always was a bit of a delusional twat.
