Years of sweating in garage bands evidently prepared the Lipsky brothers to break boundaries in commercial club culture with a sound that somehow evokes the essence of psych-rock while never sounding out of place alongside certified technoid bangers.

Their musical breadth as producers speaks to their talent as DJs, with a deep passion for record digging that again conveys very specific sensibilities – a love for the exotic, the yearning for transcendence, as well as the rough rebellious energy of punk. They produce dance music from the margins, full of with narrative, melody, and drama. It’s intense, in a good way.* 

Their affiliations to broad-spectrum labels like Multi Culti, Disco Halal and Correspondant might paint some picture of their range, and their stellar remixes for artists like Nicola Cruz, Adam Port, Autarkic and Polo & Pan may have earned them lots of plays,  but their debut LP ‘Sorry, We Did Something Wrong’ is undoubtedly their most ambitious and elaborate statement to date. Drenched in their influences, rich in collabs with a range of artists like Sepultura’s Igor Cavalera and C.A.R., the record is at once ambitious and, as the title suggests, apologetic. Their capacity for embracing these polarities, a radical boldness tempered by self-consciousness, it may divide the audience, but it shows unmistakable personality.

Simple Symmetry returnes to Multi Culti with an epic, mournful EP called “Problem,” featuring a huge remix by long-time compatriots Red Axes. Another huge edit for CULTED is on deck, as well as a peak-time rework of Drugface, following up on their massive mix of ‘In the Clouds.’

Jagged edges of electronic body music meet fractured breakbeats and off-kilter rhythms, with subtle cinematic color and a propulsive energy that nods to the bold new wave sounds of the ’80s and the adventurous electronic explorations of the ’90s. It’s a space where cheerful euphoria, ecstatic transcendence, and a sense of alienation coexist — a fusion born from transition, friction, and reinvention.

As a versatile live performer, singer, and DJ, Velvet May moves beyond the ordinary, blending experimentation, meticulous sound design, and rhythmic tension that reflects the ever-shifting frontiers of electronic music. His sonic identity is a collision of Industrial grit, evocative Body Music, and raw Rock intensity — an independent form that intertwines psychedelic inflections and breakbeat pulse into its DNA.

The project took shape in late 2018, debuting with Vast As Black Night on his label Tears On Waves, quickly gaining recognition within the underground scene. In 2019, Unknown Bodies followed — its title track carving out a distinct signature: an erotic and infernal narrative of touch, gazes, and surrender.
With Phoebe’s White Skin (2020), Velvet May crystallized his aesthetic — a visceral fusion of 80s/90s raw textures, Cold Wave melancholy, and the physical drive of Body Music. Alongside his solo work, he explored more Punk and Rock-oriented projects, expanding his creative territory.

His live performances — physical, charged, and organic — extend the emotional and sonic architecture of his studio work, translating sound into motion.
In 2024, he released his debut album on Veyl Records, and joined Supplant Band (Stoner Rock, Shoegaze, Alternative Rock) as a vocalist, adding another layer to his creative evolution.

Velvet May’s music is a raw and unfiltered projection of his inner drama — no gloss, no disguise, only the pure tension between beauty and decay, order and chaos.
