Great level of acoustic synchronicity in the mix ! Diverse and perfectly mixed psy magic for thos dance floor nights. Love the flow and breaks and as always a wonderful collaboration of artists and talent. Real cool to hear the way this mix pops out the speakers and the wonderful colours and acoustic dimensions in formation . He was having some issues in life, and it seems he deleted himself from SC about 6 months ago...which is a dam shame as he had some lyrics that were working really well with "Thistles into the Nether" that we were working on over a year ago.
This track was his creation, and it always makes me smile to hear it...I hope if he ever gets on SC again and hears it he won't get mad for me posting it...and all his work on "Thistles into the Nether" is gone... : (

This Grateful Dead song has been a favorite of Josh's for most of his life. So, when he and Ross were tossing around ideas for a Dead song to cover, they landed on this one. Ross, being the superb musician that he is, laid down a skeleton for the whole song on his piano, and added his vocals, as well as some synth that you hear at the very beginning. 
  Once we had a solid foundation to work from, Ken added his raucous main drums. Then, to get the effect of two drummers, like the Dead, JJ added some simpler, back-up drums, too. Once the drums were there, Josh added his four string fretless bass to the stew. Now that the rhythm section was done, JJ added his Brent-like electric piano, sprinkling magic throughout. Then it was time for Josh to go to work with the 6-strings. First, he added a rhythm guitar, trying to do justice to Bob Weir. Once that was completed, Josh also got to lay down Jerry's lead part, which he enjoyed immensely.
  After the music was complete, JJ added his high harmony throughout the song. Josh also added the lowest harmony in the a cappella vocal break. Since all the pieces were now in place, it was time for a mix. Ross generously did a preliminary mix, including some automation. However, the main mix was done by Josh on this one, in a rare show of his mixing vision. However, we did ask Stephen to master the whole thing for us, too, which he did expertly. 
  Our real goal with this one was to have a song we could show our deadhead friends with pride. We hope we did the Dead, their fans, and their music a service by keeping their amazing music alive. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

Challenge was to make one of my shorter songs with one of my longer lyrics, so I 'had' to craft it into an amalgam of 9/4 and 4/4 signatures. Thus, it may feel crazy on verses but I hope also catchy on refrains.
