Three Butcher Birds throw melodies back and forth on a windy morning between storms. An Eastern Koel joins in midway along with the rest of the dawn chorus and frogs can be heard in the waterway nearby.

Butcher Birds and Eastern Koel

Celebrating my first International Dawn Chorus Day in Nairobi, where I'm usually woken up by Pied Crows, House Sparrows and Hadadas...and very audible traffic noise in the distance. So, I'm sharing a mixed chorus from one of my most memorable camping expeditions in Kitobo Forest, away from city noise pollution. Ideally dawn chorus is majorly orchestrated by birds but this is not always guaranteed. This day we were woken up by a mix of Black and white Colobus Monkeys and Red-capped Robin-chats, which made a beautiful dawn chorus. Enjoy every little bit of nature's music wherever you are.

IMMA PAST FUTURES is a new heritage podcasts series supported by the Heritage Council Heritage Stewardship Fund 2022 and will be released in conjunction with the National Heritage Week programme in August 2022.  The series is co-hosted by IMMA’s Heritage Researcher and Historian, Barry Kehoe with Stephen Taylor, IMMA Development and heritage enthusiast. Each podcast explores the site's shared histories and heritage, from gate to gate walk of the site, to featuring unique perspectives from invited guests.

This gate to gate talk and walk of the land of the IMMA - RHK site - introduces this new podcast series - IMMA Past Futures, by bringing the listener on a journey of the geography of Kilmainham and the iconic landmarks located across the grounds. This starts from the East Gate where rivers of the Camac and Liffey meet, to include the history of the RHK Building and the Garden Galleries, right through to The Meadow's, Monastic settlement,  Lost Priory and the cemeteries of Bully's Acre, concluding at the West Gate and Richmond Tower.

Further Information
The site of the Royal Hospital/IMMA has been of exceptional importance in terms of local and national history from the earliest human settlements in the Liffey estuary. The earliest dated human occupation is dated back to 1950 BCE with the discovery of a Bronze-age cemetery at the eastern gate of the museum in 2006. They will interview key specialists and artists that have developed art works in response to the site heritage and delve into a wide range of heritage phenomena related to the site.Released between August and December the podcasts will encourage our visitors to come to our site and engage more widely with the richness of the local heritage.

IMMA PAST FUTURES is programmed in association with the IMMA Outdoors programme; IMMA’s Decade of Commemoration programme, 100yrs of Self-determination; and extends on the IMMA TALKS series programme.

IMMA PAST FUTURES - #1 Gate to Gate  -  A Land Walk of the Site

The loud shrieks of the Tree hyraxes are a common and unmistakable sound in Mt. Kenya and other highland forests. Tree Hyraxes are medium-sized mammals living in the canopies of tropical forests. They are shy and only move at night, to forage for food or look for mates. As the night unfolds, so do the calls, eventually quietening down, and then rise once more in the wee hours of the morning.

"Grabación de campo realizada en un atardecer del miércoles 13 de marzo de 2024, cuando el sol se ocultaba hacia el horizonte en el Río Las Brusquitas, Localidad de Chapadmalal, Buenos Aires - Argentina.  Dicha grabación esta formada por la mezcla de capturas realizadas en diferentes momentos. La sinfonía de la naturaleza se desplegaba con magnificencia mientras el coro del atardecer inundaba el aire, al inicio de la luna creciente y días antes del equinoccio de otoño. 
Se pudo apreciar cada matiz sonoro, desde el suave murmullo del agua del río hasta el canto de las aves. 
En este rincón de Buenos Aires, la coexistencia de especies es un testimonio vivo de la interconexión entre todos los seres vivos. Aquí, los sonidos biofónicos de la fauna silvestre se entrelazan con los sonidos geofónicos del río, el viento que le da movimiento a toda la flora del territorio creando una armonía única y sublime.
La ecología sonora no solo es un campo de investigación en rápida expansión, sino también una herramienta invaluable para comprender y preservar los ecosistemas. Estos sonidos nos ofrecen una ventana hacia la salud de nuestro entorno natural, revelando patrones de comportamiento, migración y reproducción de las especies que lo habitan. En un mundo cada vez más dominado por el ruido antrofónico, es crucial recordar la importancia de proteger y conservar los sonidos de la naturaleza. The latest United Nations Ocean Conference, UNOC3 just ended in Nice. Among the 15,000 delegates - and 100,000 visitors - I share with you 30 Ocean voices. Young activists, artists, scientists, campaigners: they are all Ocean lovers and defenders. Fluctuations of life. To honor the joy in our brightest moments. To honor the courage we find in our darkest ones. To accept and welcome the constant tides of change. 🌊

This set is also a tribute to Kaï, a captive dolphin in Japan.
Through Project Anima, together with my friend Leina Sato we are working to offer him a dignified and peaceful end of life in the sea, by creating an authentic dolphin sanctuary on Kakeroma Island.
Kaï somehow helped me get out of a challenging phase of my life, 
where I was mentally stuck in my own mental cage.

Fluctuations Festival is a nomadic gathering taking place along the rivers of Europe, a celebration of water, movement, and transformation. It embraces and encourages positive change, for a positive impact.

Musically, this set mirrors the waves I surfed this summer, sometimes soft and fluid, sometimes wild and unpredictable, moving through emotions, states, and inner tides.

One of the most touching moments for me was having my mum in the crowd for the first time. Seeing her dance for two hours straight filled my heart and reminded me why I play: to create joy & connection 💜

In a way, this set is a celebration,  of the pause I’ve been called to take, to recharge, of the movement I’ve embraced to heal, and of the music that kept me inspired far from the festival rush.

It’s also a reflection of where my taste and sound are evolving,  bridging minimal house, techno, and house influences, guided by emotion, intention, and the energy of the present moment.

I hope this mix takes you on a journey through your own waves,  reminding you to move, breathe, feel, and flow.
