Cartage

Just a small demo soundscape/texture. Instruments: eurorack modular synth (Cwejman, MakeNoise, MOTM, Malekko/Wiard modules), Kurzweil KSP8 effects processor. Production: Ableton Live 8. Main modules used : MMF-6 (as a SINE osc), E350 (as an LFO), ModDemix (for sideband), RES-4 (for vocal effects), Sport Modularor (as ... a semi random modulator).

the night before i left for japan a few weeks ago i plugged a module in wrong into one of my eurorack cases. burning ensued and i sadly fried 4 modules. among them was the mungo g0, a sampling/granular module known for its rather quirky behavior and expensive price tag. not exactly the module you want to be fried, considering it had to go back to australia for repair and cost nearly half the price of the module's new price.

anyway…. i finally got it back today and was eager to put it back to use. despite it acting differently on different days of the week (i swear the designer has built this functionality into the code somewhere) it can actually be coaxed into doing very interesting things…

tonight's sound comes courtesy of an OP1 being sampled into the g0 which uses an LFO to move about within the sample. it's going into an animated intelllijel korgasmatron filter and through a bit of make noise echophon delay.

the fun, however, comes as the signal is routed through a custom modified serge resonant eq where i carefully play with a feedback network.

this was an 8 minute recording, and some great (as well as explosive) feedbacks happened throughout the time. this bit i felt was free of the most uncontrollable feedbacks… so it's this i post.

a great little combination of modules that one could get a lot out of...

May 05, 2014 (mungo g0 meets serge resonant eq)

something simple tonight… 

sine waves ….. from the verbos harmonic oscillator

with individual control inputs for 8 harmonic sine waves.. not to mention individual outputs and various spread and tilt controls..

this is just the tip of the iceberg. a very simple demonstration of some of the evolving patterns that can be created.

the verbos is being modulated by 5 LFOs.

This short, live improvisation of mine on the Buchla Music Easel was inspired by Richard Devine’s amazingly sonically diverse and compelling performance at the Trash Audio Synth meet in Portland, Oregon on May 24.  He is the master!  This is merely a humble homage.

in the never ending battle/exploration that is the mungo g0 module... i had this loop going (the noise is from a wmf geiger counter module) that i thought was sort of nice... i actually forgot it was running and it ran all night in the studio.

the g0 has great potential and its idiosyncrasies often lead to moments of discovery. but it is, most of the time, a very frustrating module.

i'm not sure where i am. i hear a slow ocean, distant bells and boats hauntingly bumping a dilapidated dock, in fear of the coming storm. and i hear loons.

everyone, in their career of playing with electronic instruments, needs to synthesize bird and wave noises. didn't they teach us this in the SH-101 manual? i can't believe it's taken me 30 years to try. more electronic nature noises, please.

actually, this sound started with the same basic patching as the last two sounds but at some point the sine wave from the Dixie started sounding like a loon. i decided to run with that idea...

Reclaim Your City 103 | Sleeparchive

The opening drone is just phonogene looping a sample I randomly grabbed off my phone. Hertz donut is being sequenced by the turing machine and is running through the echophone and springray. Bass is from the analog four and drums are octatrack. I over dubbed a second version of the hertz donut but with the trigger from my keys as the clock for the echophone and the feedback out going to phonogene in broken echo mode.

Self playing Euro modular noodle featuring : Cwejman RG6, Synthtec E340, Cwejman RES4, Malekko Envelator and Doepfer A156 Quantizer.

Patch is driven by the RG6 which is performing clocking and providing CV's. E340 provides the metallic percussion. RES-4 provides subtle support.
