Track 1 – Espasmo excerpt, appended to itself in reverse and Paulstretched to 4 mins

Track 2 – piano ‘chord’ from middle of track 1, stretched and delayed

Tracks 3 – Rhythm track made from small excerpt of Dog Kiss, cloned, filtered and downtempo’ed

Track 4 – Quik Kif excerpt, improvised on in ambient v.3

Track 5 – Strange ending made from Espasmo excerpt, lots of delay

Track 6 – Strange beginning made from Espasmo excerpt, using variable tempo in both directions, also ring modulator and vocoder and even more lots of delay

The Assignment: Create a new track from three tracks from three different netlabels.

Every couple of months the Disquiet Junto hosts a netlabel remix. All of the source audio for a netlabel remix is available for free, non-commercial download and creative reuse thanks to a Creative Commons license. This series of “netlabel remixes” is intended to promote that sort of thoughtful, collaborative sharing.

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.

I am not a musician. I am a scavenger of sounds. I use the most basic software to process those sounds, stretching and filtering until something emerges that makes a joyful noise. Or not...
