Chinese One Drop

Inspired by Jean-Luc Godard’s film Alphaville, this sonic and textual work unfolds sixty years later. Amaz 30, a normative intelligence now embedded in our daily lives, engages in dialogue with X13, a secret agent from an unnamed, cold country. A man without origin, without flag, carrying a memory that insists.

Through their exchange, a tension emerges between calculation and tenderness, between optimization and forgetting, between constant light and lost shimmer. The text explores the invisible architectures of the present, the disabled thresholds of tenderness, and the murmurs that resist erasure.

Olttaoff – “Usual Error”
A post-rock piece that drifts between calm introspection and quiet unrest.
Delicate layers of guitars repeat like fragments of memory, while restrained rhythms trace the patterns of thought we can’t quite escape.
The title “Usual Error” reflects the small, recurring mistakes we make—the familiar loops of human nature that shape our days.
Rather than seeking resolution, Olttaoff embraces ambiguity itself, turning uncertainty into sound.

Disquiet Junto Project 0069: The 4 Elements

After a quick listen, I decided on the order Fire; Air; Earth; Water, mostly as a gut response.

Each track was processed separately, using vst effects plugins in Audacity only. Each track was processed multiple times and designed to be 75 seconds long on completion. I tried to keep the “character” of each element while making the track sound “musical” without any conventional musical processing other than emphasising the harmonics of the existing sounds. The rhythmic “Earth” track was achieved by doubling and folding the original, compressing it severely, cloning it over and over into a repeating track and then processing the result. Effects used included stretching, time-shifting, harmonizing, delay, echo, reverb, combs, autopan, double-tracking, reverse, phasing, amplifying, pitch altering, convoluting and corkscrewing.

This is a shared-sample project. Its theme is “The Four Elements.” The goal is to create a new piece of music by employing the following four source recordings, each of which is intended to represent one of the elements: earth, water, air, and fire. (Alternately, you can record your own source audio for any or all of the elements.) Your track should be divided into four segments of roughly equal length, one for each element. Any two consecutive segments may overlap, but only briefly, up to three seconds. You can manipulate the source audio in any way you choose, but you cannot add any other source audio.

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.
