Recurrent insomnia [naviarhaiku030 - Sleep is all I want]

Summer sounds of sleep lull but unease provides the undertone.

“Maybe in some distant place, everything is already, quietly, lost. Or at least there exists a silent place where everything can disappear. Or at least there exists a silent place where everything can disappear, melting together in a single overlapping figure. And as we live our lives we discover—drawing toward us the thin threads attached to each—what has been lost.”

Sleep Lurks [naviarhaiku030 - Sleep is all I want]

A sequential switch rotates through four different wave outputs of four oscillators to build the arpeggio. The chords panned hard left and right are played by Instruō Saïch, sequenced with a DIY Voxmachina Leo Leo Matrix Programmer. The bass pad is made with my DIY minimoog clone.

In a world where flora evolved to think and remember, a lone being known as the Verdant ascended from the soil to commune with the orchid — the most ancient and sentient of all plants. The orchid was said to store echoes of every living creature that had ever inhaled its scent, a biological archive of consciousness itself. As the Verdant pressed its lips to the bloom, not to eat but to listen, memories poured into it like sunlight through glass — wars, love songs, storms, the sound of rain on extinct oceans.

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.

I am not a musician. I am a scavenger of sounds. I use the most basic software to process those sounds, stretching and filtering until something emerges that makes a joyful noise. Or not...
