Scrambled Egg Beater [disquiet0169-html505]

I created the most terrible, ugly, unmusical and least rhythmic drum track you’ve ever heard on my first attempt at using the machine. (You know, ‘what does this button do?’) It sounds like two drum kits fighting while falling down stairs. So I decided to use it. You can hear it in the background of this, heavily reverbed and delayed.

I processed the track using ambient V.3 into one of my semi-industrial soundscapes, cut it in half and overlaid the two resulting tracks.

I snipped a tiny (random) beat out of the original track and cloned it into the hopping rhythm that develops behind this (double tracked and down-pitched an octave from about half way in).

Villagers whispered that when El Chalambra appeared, time bent sideways—clocks stuttered, rivers reversed, and memories no longer obeyed their owners. His presence was both omen and invitation: to step beyond the known map, to risk dissolving in the kaleidoscope of his gaze, and perhaps never return the same.

Another snippet from Caligo Paean - beware of gifts when chasing gods : ) 

Caligo Paean is a 1 hour long sound piece installed on river front property in the town of Franklin, Tasmania as part of the exhibition "When The Fog Clears". It formed part of the Ten Days on The Island Festival March 2025.
The work was installed in several locations across the property including a stack of subs under an old bus, in the main exhibition space and in an abandoned shed some 40 metres from the main area . The speakers were 'tuned' quite differently depending on their location and the sound was not delay corrected with the result of each mini-installation merging with each other in odd sonic ways - kind of calling the listener from one spot to another. The the work features field recordings, percussion, piano, bass guitar and Intonarumori as well as this special one off choir : )

Caligo is the Ancient goddess of Chaos. Born of the fog she controls the darkness, dwells in the void and is as old as the primordial matter that created the universe. This work is a tribute to the goddess as she continues to influence our lives and, in the case of this installation, the site and concept informing the show.

Every day, the mists of the Huon Valley perform a seductive dance, gently obscuring and revealing contours of the fertile land and waters. Situated in The Watershed Franklin, When The Fog Clears features six artists from lutruwita / Tasmania exploring the region’s iconic mists through a variety of mediums including installation, sculpture, illustration, sound, and video.

Developed exclusively for Franklin, this exhibit extends from the waterfront itself into the chambers, kilns, and rafters of the shed, inviting visitors to consider fog as an atmosphere that can cloak us in unexpected ways.

Magnetic Clouds

This work that features Italian Soprano Silvia Pepe explores the possibility of a revolution, a Revolution of the Mind.  Is it possible to still have a truly independent thought in this era that is dominated by the Information Society who attempts to manipulate the minds of the people and control the narrative by spreading false, deceptive and misleading information.   

Silvia Pepe sings lines from Puccini's Tosca "e avanti a lui tremava tutta Roma."  and "io quella lama gli piantai nel cor".    Translated "and all of Rome trembled before him."  and " I planted that blade in his heart".

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.
