With his second EP for Turbo Recordings, Nautiluss pushes against the darker edges of house and techno, forging a sound that has earned support from supreme tastemakers like Martyn, Untold, Gesaffelstein, and Ivan Smagghe.

A-side "Depth Charge" combines sub-heavy bass, gritty metallic hi-hats, and cool sonar bleeps to create a unique atmospheric bomb - the perfect soundtrack for dancing your way to the bottom of the ocean. "Surfeit" starts with a low-end thud that sounds like an entire warehouse caving in on your head, with cold synth hooks adding a layer of moody intensity. "Sunder" gradually builds into a barely reined-in house monster, complete with demonic vocal stabs and hypnotic pads. Finally, "Stygian" is a mid-tempo electro gem built just funky enough to hold down the coveted B2 slot.

On the chugging dubtechno­steamroller that is titletrack „Renaissance“ , Samuel Luv is clearly in his element. Sweeping synths, nagging stabs and a solid groove driven by pitch­shifting hihats, all come together to cement his status as a producer who know what he’s doing.

After a successful launch with tracks from Citizen and Ejeca, Loft Records returns with its second single this March, entitled ‘Ghana’ by Dorsia, and backed with reworks from HNNY, 

Jay Shepheard and Roberto Rodriguez. Dorsia is the collaborative guise of British duo Adam Reid and Andy Watson, both artists have been producing individually for quite some time, but have now joined forces and are set to release their debut single via Loft Records here. The pair create melodic, understated electronic music tipped towards the dance floor. Although newcomers under this title, working with such a promising young label and following the footsteps of Ejeca and Citizen, Dorsia are certainly ones to watch in 2014. 

The original mix of ‘Ghana’ opens the single, a gritty, low-slung house number driven by raw analogue bass, crunchy rhythms, smoothly programmed reverb soaked vocal lines and tension building atmospherics to kick off the package in style. Let’s Play House / Local Talk artist HNNY steps in first on remix duties next, reshaping the vibe entirely to generate a stunningly contrasting interpretation. The Swedish producer opts for ever-evolving saw wave bass, rugged drums, meandering melodies and a subtly blossoming dynamism to create a truly classy rework. Then on the latter half of the 12’’ we have two additional remixes of ‘Ghana’, first up is the ever on- point Compost artist Jay Shepheard, who turns in a dubbed out house reshape, fuelled by stabbing bass hits, tension building strings and swirling echoes. While closing the package is Roberto Rodriguez, the Finnish artist delivers a stripped back version, which tips the focus solely towards the groove with bumpy bass tones and heavily swinging rhythms driving the track throughout.

Massive support from the Worlds finest for Sudbeat releases lately including Sasha, Hot Since '82, Petar Dundov, Nick Warren, Pig & Dan, Chaim, Eelke Kleijn, Hector Romero, Behrouz, X-Press 2 to Armin Van Buuren proving the musical barriers that they
effortlessly crash through with waves of sterling releases cascading one after another.

And so its label favourite King Unique touching up one of his old gems for the label Yohkoh and he brings it freshly up to date with some studio magic that this wizard always conjures up. The 2014 remix is a beautiful warm techie peak time slab of goodness, meandering between lushness and veering off in the occasional wonky direction, but always delivering an outstanding slab of work that will devastate an up for it crowd on the dance floor. The hypnotic melody hooks in to your imagination, sparkling away throughout while layers of goodness and effected vocal snippets add to the mind melting soundscape.
Rodrigo Mateo is next up who certainly nods back to the Original classic version, and was made as a cheeky bootleg formerly, hat has been a secret weapon for label boss Hernan Cattaneo for a while, so much so, it sparked off this remix package to be released. This tasty version utilises the main riff while the abundant pads wash warm waves of smile inducing feelings, while the dreamlike drop is a perfect underground crowd pleasure.

21st century electro-futurism, Helsinki style. 

Sometime around a decade ago, electro started to surge onto dance floors again. A new generation of DJs, from Helena Hauff and DJ Stingray, brought the sci-fi, cyborg funk to new audiences, as a modern retool of the style began enjoying the ubiquity of its four-to-the-floor cousins. And few embody its future for our current decade like Sunny Seppä, AKA Sansibar.

Cutting his teeth in Helsinki's underground with residencies at Kaiku and Post Bar, Seppä's sound draws from a broad range of influences far from the Finnish capital. His first releases channeled the high-definition Motor City school of electro, but he has since evolved.

Not one to be confined by the narrow confines of any genre, the Finnish producer and DJ's discography has steadily begun to encompass a wider palette of influences, including releases with fellow new-gen electro artist Reptant.

It's no wonder Seppä has found a home on Kalahari Oyster Cult. Sans Musique was released by Rey Colino's label, and both are united by a love for an amalgamation of gritty and ecstatic sounds of the '90s. As Colino put it himself, the Cult espouses "nostalgia with a modern sound design."

You can hear that peppered throughout Seppä's RA Podcast. From Simulant's stone-cold classic "Wav.Form" to shades of tech house from the late '90s and early '00s (as well as some of his own unreleased material), the full vision of his broad sound world comes alive on RA.976. You won't technically hear too much electro in this mix—but underscoring many of the selections is the retro-futurism that electro elicits, that bleary-eyed optimism of dance music's halcyon era.

The penultimate FACT mix of 2012 comes from Paul Woolford’s Special Request alias.

Classic breaks, Reese basslines, distortion – Special Request’s world is a lot of fun to inhabit. Woolford introduced the alter-ego at the start of 2012, citing pirate radio as its primary influence in an early interview with FACT.

“The attractive thing about pirate radio is that it sits outside of convention, so there are no rules as such, and this is a huge part of why this project exists”, Woolford explained to us at the time. “In terms of pirate radio itself, the internet has changed the nature of it, but there was a time when it was pure community service. How many unsung heroes must there be from across the years that have dedicated their lives to this?”

Since that chat, Woolford has released three singles as Special Request – each, naturally, white label 12″s – and with a live show and album planned for 2013, now seems the perfect opportunity to see how the project translates to a DJ set. It doesn’t disappoint. With electro, acid house, hardcore and more covered, FACT mix 362 is a wild ride through various sounds and styles that inspire the Special Request project – and audiophiles, we’re warning you now: not all of these records are in great nick. That’s half of what makes the whole thing such a trip.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. “We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
