The full Clouds-curated compilation of hardcore Scottish hooligan techno. 

Heir apparent to the UK techno throne, Clouds have been gaining credibility with each release. With their LP Ghost Systems Rave, 12"s on Fifth Wall and Soma, and their latest Tannhauser Acid Works EP, they've reached beyond the warehouse and into the wild apocalyptic rubble of po-mo UK hardcore. 

Their lead track Blood Skating is an industrial blitz of terror-beats, laced with a haunting, Aphex-grade vocal pad. It sets the tone for this incredible release, which they've A&R'd out of thin air, apparently from their mates in Dundee, Perth, and the surrounding mud-lands.

You can spot Jimmy Edgar's homegrown imprint from twenty paces -- someone at BR HQ genuinely peered at my screen and said, “bit of Ultramajic, eh?” while I was typing this. The warped club constructions falling off the label’s assembly line take many forms, but often serve as an aural reflection of that typically eye-popping artwork: synthetic, pneumatic, and kinda sleazy.

Chambray’s “Rub” flew the freak flag high all through the summer. Now, as a bonus on his Rub Remixes, we have a remix of deep cut “Untitled” by none other than Len Faki. The longstanding techno don remoulds the track into the kind of functional, weaponised tool that laid our Berlin space to waste back in April.

Turbo has been stockpiling heavy duty Techno weaponry with their Warehouse Series 12”s. If you’ve missed out, the best have now been compiled along with some huge exclusive tracks.

Clouds do the heavy lifting turning in four mental tunes, one taken from their last album but three all-new exclusive bombs that could’ve easily been their own 12”, that’s how not bullshit-comp-quality they are.

TWR72 also go double with ‘Download’ from their last EP as well as ‘Koek,’ a chugging groove that has the kind of choo-choo you expect from someone legendarily BAD like Robert Hood or Jeff Mills. Kudos to these two very white Dutchmen for succeeding in the African-American-ness of their drum machine swing here. 

Another exclusive is from The Junkies with the killer ‘Sandy*,’ a guaranteed club record with hefty, low-end, for instant hip-opening impact.

The rest you might have heard if you checked out every Warehouse Series 12, but these are the very best of the best, featuring Sei A, GoldFFinch, Gingy & Bordello, the mysterious General Oscillator, and JoeFarr, who also turns in a bruising remix of Tiga vs Audion’s ‘Let’s Go Dancing’ just to make this all seem like more of an era-defining moment.

The Tiga/Zombie Nation supergroup returns with another blast of cortex-sizzling electro-funk. Featuring a remix by Nautiluss.

The latest single off the PARTYS OVER EARTH LP romances the grindstone with five and a half minutes of hard labor in the Analog Mines. 

"This extended 12" version is meant to honor the spirit of the Working Man. It is the product of two pairs of hands getting hands-on with the machines, pumping out the jam and punching out the clock," says Tiga, the man who puts the "T" in ZZT, and the "H" in Chaos.

The release also features a remix by Nautiluss, the new techno alias of Thunderheist's Graham Zilla. Look for his amazing Turbo debut EP, due in early 2012.

And while you're looking for that, look for Work Pt. II, which includes remixes by The Advent & Spiriakos, Gingy & Bordello, and Norman Nodge.

Turbo presents the latest in its stable of new techno artists with a powerful EP from Belgium's Locked Groove.

Hot off a much-hyped release for Scuba's Hotflush imprint, Locked Groove returns with three amazing tracks that showcase the growing influence of bass music on the traditional spheres of Berghain techno and Chicago house. Masterfully recreating the core elements of these established genres while infusing them with massive doses of energy and personality, this 23-year-old producer creates no-nonsense, big-room club tracks with memorable - albeit almost subliminal - hooks.

It seems hard to believe that Locked Groove only appeared on the scene in early 2011, with an output that has already garnered an impressive share of accolades, landing him on Groove Magazine's Top 10 Singles, Scuba's recent DJ Kicks mix-CD, and charts from artists as varied as Ripperton, Brodinski, and Peter Van Hoesen. And now, most importantly, he joins Turbo's blindingly promising roster of young techno artists.

Just a few years into their career, CLOUDS have already been playlisted and supported by some of the most respected heavyweights in electronic music. At 21 and 22, these Scottish prodigies have already developed a sound that has made fans out of Richie Hawtin, The Chemical Brothers, Marcel Dettmann, Michael Mayer, Sven Vath, Chris Liebing, Boys Noize and Martin Gore - a cross-section that reflects the range, quality and inventiveness of their music. All this attention through a rapid-fire succession of four singles on Tiga's Turbo Recordings. But these were mere club bombs: now the kids have grown up.
TURBO presents their debut album – GHOST SYSTEMS RAVE – an immersive 14-track journey into the heart of Techno's Future. This record should put CLOUDS in the ranks of the elite UK techno vanguard. Comparisons to the work of Blawan, Zomby, Actress are justifiable and inevitable. What is critical - and hopefully obvious to the careful listener - is that none of this is derivative. That these connections will be made simply speaks to the level of artistry on display, as opposed to any specific tricks, sounds or motifs. Wherever they try their hand, they find an original way forward. For instance, when they take on HARDCORE on the awesome FUTURE 1 and FUTURE 2, it is their own private resurrection of the spirit nexus heyday of early 90s UK jungle and techno, a historic time that also literally birthed both Liam and Calum. This is the sound of rave's undertow, dredging up toxic grit and grime, as well as beautiful shards and glimmers.
Almost nothing on this record is obvious. The melodies never resolve. The vocals are consistently unintelligible. The drums are at once dirty, punchy, and repetitive, but never too abrasive to put you off. The bass growls. Textures breathe, brush, grate and glisten. Everything sounds as though it exists in an alien world of impossible dimensions, complete with its own physics, logic and secrets. 
This record is more than fully formed. It's perfect. Made in a few weeks of total isolation in a barn in Scotland by two kids with a laptop and total conviction. Welcome to the FUTURE. It's theirs.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range, and this, along with a commitment to beautiful design, has earned the label respect in the industry and a cult following among fans. 

“We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
