The result is a thrilling showcase for DJ JM, perhaps our favorite current artist working in any medium. His grit-rich beats, his melodist’s ear, his sound design…sometimes it’s all too much to bear. Vancouver/Paris -based imprint Club Designs is back with its biggest compilation to date.

CDMUSIC012, the latest in the label's ongoing series of electro inspired VAs, boasts an eclectic mix of producers from across the globe, paying their respect to the classic Detroit genre.

The compilation features music from Vancouver heroes Greazus, French DMC champion Saligo, Berlin’s Insomniast, and label alumni Shanx, alongside label co-founders Sharkki, who teams up with hot French producer Body Hook, and Garneau who brings a deeper cut to the pack.

Tokyo newcomer Kanse keeps it old school, while Aleister and Minor Sine Project bring the modern productions into play. Sonically, the release traverses the full scope of the imprint's sound, with streamlined percussive club tracks, bass-heavy workouts, and leftfield electro explorations that nod to both UK club culture and North America's undergrounds.

Club Designs has been steadily building a reputation as a stronghold of gritty and raw dance music, and CDMUSIC012 sounds like both a rallying cry and a celebration of the collective energy that powers the label.

French imprint AWO tee off their release schedule with ‘Akua‘, a new single from Montpellier-based production duo SOM.1...Clocking in at 135 BPM, 'Akua' simmers with dark textures and mutant breaks. Peppered with 90s hip-hop vocals, a tightly-coiled arrangement of terse breaks skitters over an ominous fog. Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range, and this, along with a commitment to beautiful design, has earned the label respect in the industry and a cult following among fans. 

“We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
