TURBO 137 - THE GIVER REMIXES

Turbo Recordings presents four killer remixes of one of its biggest tracks of the year. Featuring Tiga, Lando Kal, Gingy & Bordello, and Locked Groove.

When Turbo put out Duke Dumont's "The Giver", everyone at the label knew it had the potential to become a massive house anthem. So when it actually happened, it was gratifying to learn that a) the label's braintrust wasn't crazy and b) the rest of the world isn't completely out to lunch. With support from Annie Mac, Erol Alkan, Heidi, Diplo, Damian Lazarus, Martyn, Soul Clap, A-Trak and a legion of other big names, plenty of radio play on BBC One, and rave reviews from critics, the track has taken on a life of its own, spending numerous weeks in Beatport's Deep House Top 5.

With this in mind, the label decided to go with its instincts for the remix pack, sticking with some of its best and most exciting in-house talent while also including a respected outsider. 

REMIXERS

Turbo boss Tiga turns the Lifestyle Machine up to 11, before snapping the knob off completely with a seven and a half minute epic that is possibly even more anthemic than the original. Turbo obsessives might have noticed that this is only Tiga's second remix for the label since 2005 - after Azari & III's similarly huge "Reckless (With Your Love)" - offering even more evidence of just how significant a release this is for us.  

With releases on Hotflush, Rush Hour, and Numbers, Lando Kal has been pushing his sound more and more into the realm of gear-based Detroit-influenced techno. His version of "The Giver" continues in this vein, a tripped-out after-hours workout that's destined to become the highlight of your next warehouse party.

Toronto's Gingy & Bordello are undeniably two of Turbo's most promising rising stars, with a career path seemingly taken out of some fantastic DJ/production duo storybook. Their mix ramps up the BPM and takes things into big-room techno territory. The arrangement is long and strong, and the payoff near the end is subtle and retains the essential ecstatic tone of the original while doing away with the commercial angle. Let Gingy take you on a journey, and then let Bordello take you on a journey. It's the same journey, but still.

Hot Belgian producer Locked Groove is another of the label's emerging New Jack Techno talents. His impressive versatility is fully evident on his contribution, combining elements of hi-NRG 90s eurodance and melancholy ambient techno into something that evokes the yearning heart at the core of Belgium's other greatest export, Technotronic.

KV series was a production line of a number of heavy tanks Soviet origin. They were baptized in the name of defense and political commissar Kliment Voroshilov. At the time of the invasion of the Soviet Union by Germany in WWII, the KV tanks were better protected from the time, but only accounted for 2% 1 of total Soviet armored forces on 22 June 1941. His initial success in stopping and decimate panzer forces earned him the nickname of "kill Nazis."

ZZT - Vulkan Alarm!

This masterpiece powed my brain with a inhuman force of distortion. The melody is more than just a couple of notes... its trackzilla unleashing a riot of a sound,  and to even add on.. the genius Vocal cut up. If this was the anthem to the end of the world, I would die a happy happy man.

This EP Artcover is phenomenal and does not step away from the sound of EP. Simple, catchy, fat, and so real as if the Master Computer itself inputed the algorithm. If I wanted to get the whole crowd to start doing the robot, I would... with this track.

Azari & III - Reckless With Your Love (Tiga remix)

I believe this track has hit 100 plays in Itunes, I can't get enough of it. It's so groovy and catchy that I can't help but looking like a fool singing the lyrics... besides all that.. It will seriously get every girl in the crowd twerking 100%. Who knows? you might get lucky if you play it too

Turbo Recordings honors one of the best albums of 2012, Zombie Nation's RGB, with a solid selection of remixes from Zoo Brazil, Popof, Modek, TWR72, joeFarr and J. Tijn.

Following the release of his 2012 album RGB, Zombie Nation is a producer at the height of his powers, massively respected by his peers. Now, Turbo has enlisted some of its favorite artists to give the album a remix package that reflects both its quality and versatility.

The newest addition to Turbo's New Jack Techno stable, Bristol-based producer joeFarr's first EP for the label earned him instant recognition, and his follow-up EP -due this spring - is massive. Swedish veteran Zoo Brazil follows his string of huge Twin Turbo releases with yet another surefire peak-time bomb. Turbo also reunites with old flame Popof, hearkening back to the days before he became a big-name festival fixture. For this release, he brings his signature sound to one of the album's standout tracks.

Meanwhile, our rich love affair with the nation of Belgium continues with a remix from emerging up-and-comer Modek, who delivers a stadium-sized banger worthy of his heritage. Dutch duo TWR82 counts the likes of Erol Alkan, Brodinski, and Laidback Luke as supporters. Their version of "Pony" is clanging big-room techno that's both stripped-down and jacked-up, if you can even imagine that. Finally, rising New Jack Techno star J. Tijn returns with more of the aggro, pounding warehouse techno he's becoming known for among people who know their shit.

Tiga reunites with longtime Finn-Friend Jori Hulkkonen to deliver a question of trust, a question of lust, and a question of not letting too much time pass between 12-inch dance releases. Embracing a shared love for late-night dancefloor sleaze, the always-likely pair venture into filthier territory than either would ever tolerate in any phase of their actual lives.

"With this song, I wanted to get my music into some of the darker clubs, the kind where you see obese Goth kids drinking Red Bull out of goblets and somebody's uncle wearing one of those weird studded strap things. I want to say harness, but nothing's holding this guy back when my song comes on," says Tiga from what we can only presume is the least out-of-touch location imaginable. Definitely nowhere near a drawbridge.

The remixers had full license to go even darker, far past anything Tiga's family-friendly idea of himself would allow. Danny Daze takes things into the beyond-afterhours hours, when normal debauchery gives way to things like identity theft and marriages of convenience. The dub version is a silent tribute to these victims of circumstance and poor life decisions. Meanwhile, John Roman imagines a deeper-voiced Tiga from the other side of the tracks, who knows how to sneak into the acid warehouse for half-price. Finally, joeFarr amps it up into pleather-dreaded techno territory, with a Matrix-friendly BPM and surprisingly subtle atmospherics. 

"When I tell you to trust something, you have to trust that I fully trust in what I'm saying," adds Tiga. "Otherwise, we're just two solitary souls trying to make sense of the moonlight, and that's not the kind of nighttime world I want to spend my nights in."

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. “We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
